identification please...maybe a variation of cuby
    #5701377 - 06/01/06 08:42 PM (17 years, 7 months ago)

i was cutting my neighbors grass...and i noticed this little cap on the ground about two inches high and and inch wide...i picked it and i thought it was a cuby...but the color is a bit off...the mushroom has the following features.

2 inches high in all
a pale yellow cap
white gills
a white veil
a thick white (top) then pale yellow(bottom) stem
a darker nipple on top of nipple

after i took pictures i capped to take a spore print. soon there after the gills turn to a light gray and the spore print was jet black. hope this is enough info for all you guys, let me know what you think

LOL. Yeah, those pics are pretty fuzzy. But they look like bad news to me.

No harm can come from questioning. "Best" case scenerio: You prove it right without relying on the fact that it is widely accepted. Argument strengthened. "Worst" case scenerio: You realize you might have been wrong. The new answer might or might not be what you want to hear, but it beats defending yourself with bullshit.

You saw the pictures, they aren't awesome.  There are some agarics I have found that look similar (i think, since the pic is fuzzy) and I've identified as poisonous.  Furthermore, we cannot assume that everyone on this board has accurate descriptions- I myself have difficulty distinguishing black spore prints from dark brown.  The "jet black" spore print is not indicative of Amanita, but the picture and description suggests a possibility.  It is highly doubtful though, assuming Nobhdy isn't lying to us about the print   The mushroom looks to be pinched, if there was a basal bulb, it would have been seperated and left in the grass.
Hmm, what else.... hebeloma.. they can have a dark print, and can be poisonous.  The photo is not unlike some pictures i have seen of this genus.
Basically, most of the white mushrooms i have found with similar descriptions have turned out to be poisonous varieties, which is why I posted the above statement.

I do take offense to "you never seem to know what you are talking about", but am willing to consider the criticism, so if you can point me out a few other examples where i seem not to know what i am talking about, please inform me.  PM is probably best as not to clutter the board.  Thanks.

hey no ya I learned the hard way deleting pics from your file also deletes from the post.....tho so blurry its good to leave them for reference

hey camel Ive seen nothing but safe info and some rather advanced Ids from Cure......she was giving cautious info and trying to explain politely because she knew he was probably was mistaken about the black spore print.....even from those terribly blury pics I could still see that those were Agaricus just as she mentioned in her reply that were growing from his lawn.....that coupled with the fact that he stated the base of the stem was yellow......this most certainly points to the possibility of them being poisonous..

and you are totally misinformed of what can be found in yards as far as active shrooms....

hey no...please dont consider camels recommendations that these arent possibly poisonous
