And I hope he wins and takes every last dollar Moore made off of that fraudulent piece of propaganda posing as a documentary movie!
Moore sucks, and so do his movies. The end.

You better pray, because the vet ain't gonna win. He's complaining about footage that was already in the public domain (Moore used a clip from Nightly News). He has no chance of getting a penny from Moore. If stumpy didn't want to be featured elsewhere, he shouldn't have gave an interview for Nightly News to begin with.

Please point out the exception in law that allows media in the public domain to be used freely for libel..or are you just making this up?

How is simply replaying something "libel"?
This is like Michael Jackson suing Martin Bashir for libel.

do you want the vet to win because you dislike moore and his films...or do you actually think this lawsuit has merit? If you want the vet to win only because you disagree with Moore, well then, that's stupid.
I dont think the lawsuit will go far. I doubt the subject of an interview has rights over a piece - the owners of the piece do (NBC). And I'm sure Miramax cleared the interview with NBC allowing Moore to edit the piece has he sees fit. I am willing to bet that when someone agrees to be interviewed by someone like NBC, they also agree to waive their rights.
Looks like the vet and his lawyer are attempting to cash in.

You guys are right. I don't think the case has much merit. And I'm sure that the Vet is trying to cash in on the situation (and possibly trying to make a political point at the same time). But whether it be stupid or not, I'd like to see Michael Moore eat some of his own shit for once!

There is never, never an excuse for supporting a frivolous lawsuit.
That veteran is just being opportunistic. His appearance in the film did not cause him damages. He just wants to be able to live a wealthy, selfish retirement paid for by the mistake of another person.
Whether or not michael moore is a douchebag, the veteran is certainly acting like one.

1) libel refers to written things. 2) slander refers to someone saying something.
It isn't either, nor is it even Defamation of character, because it is not a lie, it is actual footage of this guy talking, even if portrayed with a slant or edited in such a way.
Quote:
Damon is seeking $75 million in damages for emotional distress and loss of reputation. His wife is suing for an additional $10 million in damages because of the mental distress caused to her husband, Lynch said.
emotional distress is very difficult to prove, especially being able to prove that one thing is the sole cause of it all.
and "loss of reputation"? I think this guys reputation now is a whining douchebag, which he has done to himself.
Moore does not need permission from that guy to use the televised footage of him, NBC or CBS or whatever owns the rights to that footage, which I am sure he was paid nicely for.
If this guy ends up winning, I am going to sue the Bush administration in an enormous class action lawsuit for "loss of international reputation".

Let's not start sucking each others dicks just yet.
The moment in Fahrenheit when the right-wing women said "You are lying and faking" to the mother of the dead soldier justified the film being made all by itself.

And thats just what it is: a film. Nothing more nothing less.
Anyone who can justify their political beliefs, by watching a movie is grasping at straws. Movies are made to entertain, not to inform. What Moore does is put out an entertainment flick under the guise of a "documentary". Hoping to dupe the people into believing his bullshit.

Sucking each other's dicks? Heaven forbid they be allowed to decide whether or not they enjoy a movie without someone asserting that they are fellating each other.
Heil Alex!
To the original poster: While I feel bad for the guy and realize it stinks that someone is making a good deal of money off taking him out of context or putting slant or spin on his words, I don't believe he has a case. They took his own words and put them in a movie. I don't think he had any right to the footage, anyways.

americans need more integrity in the style of michael moore and less idiotic litigation. michael moore is an important historical figure - probably more important for humanity than george bush and his gang of oil families who are sinking us into something worse than the crusades, worse than the inquisitions and worse than the monarchy ever was with this second term of "unfinished business" that should never have been started.

That is what politicians do..... dupe people into believing their bullshit. Moore was playing the political game. This is actually hilarious, you guys seem to be saying that we should hold filmmakers to higher ethical and moral standards than elected officials.
Im sure some people took the movie at face value.... frankly, I have never seen it, but I doubt that anyone's complete political affiliation comes directly from that movie.
You guys yell "unfair", "slanted" and "biased" as you break the knob on your television so it never leaves Fox news. All news is slanted, everyone has an agenda, and maybe a handful of those in power are people who every once in a while makes a humanitarian decision which is the greatest good for the greatest amount of people.
The only living politician i even remotely like is McCain.... I don't really like his views, but there is something about him.

believe me, if there is any channel i watch more than others, its Fox News. I also love Michael Moore's movies, and even that fucking tv show he had way back when on HBO, which in my opinion was his BEST work ever.
I enjoy these because of their entertainment value, and because I often get more stimulation from seeing things I don't agree with, as opposed to being surrounded by likeminded people that just agree with each other all the time. sort of like the crazy fellatio mentioned earlier.
They both share a love / hate relationship. I love them for their entertainment value, and for their "talking points" but I hate every fucking part about both of them.. fox for being the corporate lapdog, fact twisting pit of perverted journalism that it is, and michael moore for being the media pseudo-underdog, self proclaimed martyr.
I say give Alex Jones a 1 hour show before O'Reilly, and put Michael Moore where he belongs: canadian public access.
