hollow stems & low potency

I have been cultivating some very, very good South American mushrooms. But here recently they have been kind of decreasing in size and producing hollow stems. What causes this?
Last night me and a few friends ate some, and the potency seemed like a remnant of what used to be.
I did dry them by a heater and they ended up getting pretty hot. But I read somewhere that psylocybin begins to break down at 400 degrees, so that almost rules out that possibility of low potency. Another possibility could be the age of the network...senesence.
What are your opinions on size and potency decreases? And hollow stems?
thanks in advanced

I would feel inclined to say that hollow stems SHOULD be unrelated to potency... although, an old mycelial network could be the culprit. I have notice second + thirs flushes produce more hollow stems... I have noticed decrease in potency in both longer-boiled teas as well as heat dried caps... so i donno... I would be careful with heat. Besides that, a good way to go would be Liquid Culture -> Jars -> Grain 2 Grain one generation -> bulk substrate\fruting... Trying to continue mycellium over time can make it loose its vigor. I donno though, just some thoughts.

Yeah, this is the first generation...so it shouldn't be that old yet should it?....
Oh, yeah. Forgot to mention that I have my monotub outside because I have nowhere else to put it. It has been raning for a couple days off and on. I get rid of the excess water daily. It's not flooded but I do know that the substrate is FULLY SATURATED. Could excess water have anything to do with the problem listed previously?

I have no idea what an "excess" of water would be with shrooms... however, methinks that if there was such a level that could be considered "excess" that it may fill your shroomies w/ some waterweight... but your guess is as good as mine... hopefully one of the resident mycologists will offer a better solution.

I read somewhere that at least the hollow stems happenned with a bad FAE... The potency however, could just mean that you had a fucked substrain or maby that shit, was bad shit... Ya know hat i mean?

Well the shit was good. Because we tripped harder that ever before on previous experiences with the same batch.
And no, they weren't completey dry. they were a little moist still. Maybe it was the heat. That's my best guess...not sure though. But they were blue as fuck by the time it was all said and done, so I know there was psylocibin in them...

thats probably why, water weighs a shitload, even a little bit
look into getting a dehydrator because weighing damp shrooms is pointless

hollow stems are due to less than optimum growing conditions. could be FAE, humidity level, temp, etc etc/
potency loss is most likely cuz of the heat. i never dry any warmer than room temp.
other than that, keep up with the hpoo and the thick sub layer. should give you kick ass results
