Casing Colonization?

OK so you have to wait and let the casing colonize before pinning? I always see the top of peoples casing not-colonized. Is the only bottom half of the casing getting colonized? Whats up?

I dont know what you mean by top\bottom halves of casings... HOWEVER... yes... you must incubate your casing. If you use a more-coir mix (most reccomend against it) it will take 3-4 days to colonize to the point of being ready to pin. Most other mixes will take about a week or so. You want to the top to have a thin greyish white fuzz on it (good mycellium fuzz, not contam fuzz) but no thick white knots... if you see a few thick knots appear before anything else pokes through, patch it with a little bit of casing material.

Look at that, the first 2 pics are "overlay" and bad. The third pic is proper casing level for fruting.
Make sure that after you take outta the incubation chamber, you spray with water, cover with foil, and fridge for 24hrs... then take out, mist, and put in fruiting chamber.
Check this out too, a GREAT piece!

Should be good to go!

Muahaha! Indeed your self-found wisdom! It doesnt! Thats why you gotta pull it and fruit it before it grows too much (overlay)... if it grows through too much (too much overlay) you have to patch it (put an UBER thin layer of casing mixture over the areas with overlay). Timing takes some time to get used to, but once you get it, you will know when you pull them out.
