PMP Problems - What to Prepare For.
    #5697815 - 06/01/06 12:56 AM (17 years, 7 months ago)

Anyone ever had troubles with A PMP setup? Care to share alittle about it and maybe give some usefull tips for resolving them?

It seems that the bubble wands have clogged pretty good with algi buildup (Closest Assumption). They basically just stopped bubbling, what causes this? I know that the geolite can be prone if not treated, so had it not been in the middle of a pinning phase, then it would have been fine to clean up quickly, but things arnt that simple. To think that these rocks were boiled before this run, yet it only took a month to muck up. What the hell am I missing?

---QUESTIONS----

1. What is a good way to clean the wands? What should be done to prevent this sort of algi issue next time? **ADDING H202 ISNT STRONG ENOUGH.

2. Will adding chlorine or some sort of anti algi solution be harmfull to developing cakes? / Stipes? / Casings? / Digestion???

3. Can this be caused from the air entering into the tubes clogging with dust or spores?

Any help is appriciated...

I clean mine out every grow cycle (as suggested by Roadkill awhile back).

I hope I never come to the point where I have something in there constantly...That'd suck.

And that's Exactly why I'm getting a Martha

Good luck

I hear of people adding bleach to the water but I can not say myself if that works. Your best bet would be to do what the previous reply said, put some space between grows to clean it up.

bleach will work and its very effective so use very very sparingly.  h2o2 only really keeps away bacteria and only lasts 5-6 days before you need to add more.  i use it in my mister but otherwise i dont bother adding it to FCs anymore.

there could also be mineral build-up on the bubble wands from your water.  to clean it, soak it in some vinegar solution for a half hour or so (like half vinegar half water is fine so you dont need a ton of vinegar) then rinse well.  get some gallon jugs of distilled water (they're only about a buck a piece) and use that in your PMP in the future to keep mineral buildup (and probably the algae if that's really whats in there) away...

other than that plan to clean it out now and again.  even a pmp in tip-top shape is gonna get spores dumped all over it (if you're lucky ) so you gotta clean now and again.  i have a pmp in addition to all sorts of various crazy FC ideas all around the house so usually i'm able to take things in progress out of the PMP and put them elsewhere to clean... but you can take your cakes out and put them in any sealed container for a few hours no matter what stage they're in and do some cleaning in you need to... won't hurt a thing.

Thanks for the replies guys, though, your going to have to give me some more credit here. I realize cleaning the chamber every month is a good practice, but wouldn't it be great to avoid any cleaning completely...or atleast stretch the time between sanitizing it? If this is even possible, which I think it is.

lGnostic - Yeah, having this happen isnt cool, ecspecially right in middle of...Though, it still would have been fine because the geo does a good job of keeping up the humidity, and I've got extra air jets running into the chamber to filter the air.

C.Corn - Hey, thats all very good information man and a possibility of what was causing it. I didnt realize that H202 needed to be replaced so often, guess I hadn't done that for awhile (sheesh...) and yeah, I have a notion it was algi, of coarse with spores, and minerals like you suggested...(Geo sheds alot of dirt.)

What I did...Sprayed down rocks with solution of H202 / Isopropal, removed pinning cakes into temp storage tub. Soaked bubble wands in a cleaning solution, scrubed and then poked new air holes (larger) into the material. Works great now1! Id suggest doing this prior to installing new bubble wands, because they could eventually clog up. I've invested in a bottle of light algi-cide liquid, used in pool and spa expenses. Very minamal ratio to water, and should last awhile. Still want to see if it will keep it from slimeing up again. This might be over-kill, I dont imagine algi would even be a bad thing to cultivation. Correct me if Im wrong but doesnt Algi de-oxygenate the water and also feeds off of minrals in it?
