questions of a first time grower

I am about to start growing mushrooms for the first time. I have read through this site (and god knows how many others) and would just like to make sure I have all my ducks in a row before starting.
I will first be using the PF tek because it seems to be very detailed and an easy place for a beginner to start I'm pretty clear on it but I am also very interested in casing.
Is one able to simply use your cakes after the 2 or 3 fruiting to start a casing? I've read in several places that you can use the freshly birthed cake, so it would seem that this would work quite well. Also I was wondering if I could use the fruiting chamber that I will be using for my cakes (probably a large rubber-maid container about the size of a foot locker complete with an ultra-sonic humidification system and timer) to case with since it will already be set up to control my environment and would provide a nice large area to grow in ( I would of course empty it and spray it down with a bleach solution before attempting this)
any help / suggestions would be great. (including what strain of shrooms to use, I am planing on using amazonians but am very open to suggestions) Also I plan on maybe planting an outdoor patch of azurescens since they grow wildly around here and info on that would be great too
thanks for any help

Do cakes a few times before you try casings. Use the fresh cake to make the casing.

I would leave my FC like it was. Just place a couple of small casings or one big casing in it and watch it grow.
I liked GT's better than the EQ's.
The best ones I have tried were the local wild ones

I am doing cakes first to get the feel before casing, but everyone is different. You should use fresh cakes to do it so that you have as much of the nutrients as possible to case. I like the G.T. as well but most of them are good even for the beginner, just make sure you are not getting the wood lover type if doing pf-tek method and from what I have read you should master the others before triing those anyways

Go with South Americans, Golden Teacher, B+, PESA, Equador, or Amazon. These, and most Cubensis, work well for the first-timer. I would reccomend cakes as well; although casings are not really difficult, they will produce better results once you have learned more about mycology (proper watering, cloning teks, etc.). PF cakes will provide you with some fruits and experience in growing--and time to read up on other useful skills. GL.

You should (should) have no problems casing in your existing FC provided you have the appropriate space and humidity levels.
For your spent cakes - try the outdoor tek. (Or give them to a buddy so they can outdoor them) -Me
Also IMO you should case, it is very easy and worth the little extra effort. you should start with casings and move on to hpoo

Tasmanians seem to be working well for me so far (with the PF tek), I recommend this particular strain.

Take the good adivce given to you here, let me reiterate to prove the importance of the following:
1. Casing is the way to go no matter what... once your first or second try with cakes turns out good, case away it is the path to glory! (case as soon as you birth)
2. Once you are experienced with the mycological ways, GO HPOO! I cant stress this enough... nothing on shroomery is beyond anyone with an IQ of 70, remember that... that its the learning thats hard, but the actual processes, which you will learn, are so simple you wonder why you werent doing it all along.
4. "South American, GT, Pesa, B+, equador, Amazonian" Yes, agreed, these ARE the most COMMON BEGINNER STRAINS!! For good reason too... they all offer good yield + potency, but tend to be eassier for beginners.
Overgrow the planet!
 (damn, memories)
