Desiree said: Actually, I haven't had sex in a long time. Maybe that's the problem. I don't have any pain right now. I'm just worried about future injuries and what kind of pain that may come along with this type of condition.
The drugs are working lovely for now. If anything, I get a bit uncomfortable when my back starts acting up. Not painful uncomfortable...just weird uncomfortable.
Well, let me offer some insights on what to expect. The taller you are, the worse you are going to be long term. Also, if you are overweight, that will make the injury worse. Hopefully for your sake you are neither. It also depends on the severity of the injury. Since you are a girl, I find it doubtful that you could be that tall, and have that much weight compressing your spine. I would expect that with proper treatment, you may never suffer from your back ever again if you are careful.
Also, once the doctor gives you the ok, you should start a regimen of stretches, and situps in order to strengthen the back and stomach muscles. This will help you keep from reinjuring yourself.
Me, well, I go through boughts of pain, right now it's so bad that I can't sleep despite going off of 2 hours of sleep in about 50 hours. I'm in so much pain I'm naeusous. Pot helps a ton, but I don't have any. I also injured my back so horrifically, that I used to stay up for 72 hours straight, even though I was taking narcotics daily. I was in too much pain to sleep.
It sounds like what you are going through is pretty mild (although I'm sure at times it doesn't feel that way). I would consider you lucky, and feel very optimistic. I think the doctor will say it's minor and give it time to heal, or give you a couple shots to shrink it. Worst case scenario, they shave the disk slightly. I doubt it needs to be removed, as you'd more than likely be suffering from debilitating pain.

I am tall and this --->
is overweight. The picture has been posted before so I don't care who sees it.
I looked this up online: "What is degenerative disc disease? May 5, 2000 (Updated November 29, 2005) Don't let the term "degenerative" confuse you; degenerative disc disease does not necessarily get worse with age. While the disc degeneration is likely to progress over time, the associated pain usually does not get worse and in fact usually gets better over time. Read more..." By: Peter F. Ullrich, Jr., MD
So if I'm fortunate, with the right treatment, I may be just fine.

You may be tall for a girl, but your still aren't tall. Also, you aren't much overweight. Girls are supposed to have 20-25% body fat. I'm 6'6 and at my job I sit in a chair all day, and have to hunch over in order to see what I'm doing. Same thing in cars, because the world just doesn't accomodate people of my height. I think you will be fine after some sort of treatment.

I'm sorry, I thought I posted my hieght. I'm 5'10. That's decently tall for a girl.
Thank you again for your replies, concern and information. You've given me a lot to talk about with my doctor.

readin this is making my back hurt lol I have muscle spasms in my lower back the muscles are all lumpy and crap...its an old football injury. Still haven't went to a doctor about it and probably never will. My shoulder has bursitis caused by an impingement. I'm a mess but just ignore it all.

Don't ignore it. It will get worse. What keeps you from seeing a doctor?

I have lots of back pain because of having two metal rods right next to my spine and can't work because of them. I love to set in a hot tube. I'm on ApAp-Codeine#3 and about five other pain meds.I had the two rods put in at duke, and now the disc below the rods are degenerating. I love the pain meds I'm on.

I asked my doctor about the shots and he told me that it may be a good idea for me since I'm still young and they may work well for me.
There's a problem though. He says that they give them like they give epidurals.
I'm NOT into having another one of those. I'm afraid the one I had because of my last daughter may have started the damage I have now.
I'm very afraid of those, plus I have to drive an hour away to get one every three weeks or so.
It's the shots, that I'm terrified of, or PT 3 times a week for who knows how long.

The shots weren't bad. I just layed on my back and they stuck the needle in or whatnot. I think it is the same exact thing as an epidural, and I highly, highly doubt that is what caused your current problem, unless you meant the actual giving birth part. You need to put pressure on your spine to cause a disk to bulge, and an epidural won't do it I'm afraid.
In the end, it is your decision, but I would highly recommend the shots. Best of luck!

I've decided to do the shots, but I have yet to make an appoinment. I guess I'm kinda putting it off. I'll go and let you know if I feel it was worth it.

Finally, a month later...I just came back from the doctor who suggests that I take the shots. This pain in my back is now constant. It never goes away. Although the pain varies in severity, it's sometimes tolerable, but mostly uncomfortable.
I'm scared shitless. The idea of needles in my back scare me. Funny how I have multiple piercings. Needles in general don't scare me...it's just the back thing that scares me.
I'm hoping they don't damage anything else.
