Poor Bird...
    #5694966 - 05/31/06 01:37 PM (17 years, 7 months ago)

So I'm outside on break today at work and I'm smoking a cig at the bench talking to a coworker when all of a sudden I hear a PLOP!.  We look over and there's a tiny baby bird writing around on the ground, as it just fell out of a nest well over 20 feet in the air.  It could barely walk, couldn't fly...something was obviously messed up and it was probably in agony.  I didn't know what to do but watch.  I didn't want to kill it.  I figured maybe I could grab some nesting material from the produce dept. and try to give it a new nest or something but I remember hearing that bird bones don't always heal the right way and I have no training in animal first aid.

So the guy next to me is all, "Haha that fucking sucks!" and he's making fun of it and out of nowhere he hocks a huge one and it lands RIGHT on it, from like 6-7ft away.  That really pissed me off...I'm like, "That's fucked up man, that's....damn"  I felt so bad for the poor little bird I walked right over to it and crushed it to death with one very hard, fast stomp.

Did I do the right thing? :stoned:

I think so. It didnt have much of a chance at living, so putting it out of its misery seems like the best thing for it.

If I watched you do that in real life, I would beat the fucking shit out you, cool?

Really, too, I swing pretty fucking fast, real quick to the kidneys until you leave a little opening for me to start slamming your head with my fists.

I'd be happy to fight you. You wouldn't stand a chance against a man of my size.

Should of call the Parks and Wildlife. There are places that take birds and care for them.

Not knowing this you most likely did the right thing. Only you should have stomped you co-worker too.

Your empathy for the animal says you probably did the right thing.
I think it was better off dead instead of dying slowly or having some other dickhead stand on it for fun !

I would of left it though, i'd of felt like i was playing God.
Nature is cruel !

I wanted to.  Why would you spit on something that's just accidentally fallen and screwed up any chance it had at a life?  If someone shot me or something in war and the enemy spit on my face as I lay there dying, I'd definitely want someone to end my misery ASAP.

I've had to kill multiple birds. The first time was when I was 10 in the boyscouts. Baby fell out of a tree. I dropped a rock on it. I felt soo bad, but there was really nothing I could do for it.

You should report your co-worker to the SPCA.

I used to do the same shit!  I'd throw rocks, shoot bb-guns, slingshots, you name it...  I was the kid stomping on worms and wreaking havoc on the insect/small animal kingdom.  Then that one day I actually hit one and my stomach DROPPED.  I couldn't understand why I wanted to do it in the first place, and I left the scene feeling really uneasy.

Glad I grew up!

I think most of us have done something like that before.
Maybe its our age old instincts

reminds me of this asshole who ran over a squirrel... we drove up next to him and he was laughing... I cursed him off and it led into a ten minute car chase... this guy was nuts. he drove next to me on a one lane u-turn! we got to a light and he got out of his car and went up to my window yelling! so i kept the window closed and said ''i cant hear you, what are you saying'' then i drove off before he got back in his car.

i was one of those kids who had no remorse for other living things.i went in the woods and hunted birds with a paintball gun. but i got over that phase quickly. boys tend to go through the ''kill everything'' phase.

I agree. I even used that as an explanation to myself. I was like, "Well, that's what man has instinctively done since the dawn of time, maybe there's an underlying instinct still there."

Society tends to delete instincts and intstall morals. Would you guys still feel bad about killing animals if everyone in the world encouraged or rewarded you for it? Prolly not. <-Just a thought.
