Fully colonized WBS jar question????
    #5694195 - 05/31/06 09:37 AM (17 years, 7 months ago)

Hi - I have some fully colonized WBS jars. I don't need to use them for a few days - for grain transfers or for spawning. My question is: Where is the safest place for them - in the incubator, in the fridge, or at room temperature

Thanks in Advance
Shaq

im no expert, yet.. but i have heard that storage in the fridge is no problem. keeping contamination issues in mind.

it probably won't hurt to leave them in the incubator or room temp a few days, they could "overcolonize" a little bit (and might bring some myc piss as a result) but a few days shouldn't hurt.

the fridge also works well... it basically suspends growth and "pauses" them. you can keep them for months in the fridge and they spring back to life when they get back up to room temp. i like to make sure they're well sealed and toss a piece of saran wrap over the top just to be safe because fridges are full of nasties, but its never been a problem for me keeping grains, LC's or cakes under refrigeration for weeks until i'm ready for them.

i let some of my jars go an extra 3 weeks at room temp after fully colonized, spawned to hpoo and it worked fine. Fridge would be ideal however.
