when I leave this world, who's going to stop the Chinese Prime Minister from nuking the planet? You? Who's going to hold the alien invasion back? Who's going to steer the earth away from meteors and black holes, and the dreaded supernova sun which will one day destroy our entire solar system? You?
you couldn't stop anything.

When is it necessary to call the police?
I think it is necessary to call the police when someone tries to kill me.

Picture this if you will -
You work at a servo at off hours and often serve people who are pretty drunk and driving - but that's the cops problem to catch them.. and the peoples problems to make it home without getting caught!
BUT.. say this one night, you get someone coming up so drunk they can not actually walk, they forget their money, they forget what they're doing, they are completely fucked... and they're driving.
Do you let them go and think "I don't care what happens - that person is not me" (The typical attitude of today - STINGINESS AND EGOTISTICAL BULLSHIT thinking - i'm out there for myself)
OR do you think "Shit, that person is likely to have an accident and receive life changing disabilities which'll probably fuck them over forever.." and call the cops right away...
Personally - IF I were to go out drunk as shit, driving, i'd prefer to be caught by the cops and receive a fine and some demerit points than end up dead or paralyzed!!! (I don't go driving drunk, so if i were driving - something'd probz be up emotionally too = even worse problem!)
BUT - this also depends what the cops are like in your area... our area they're ok (South-east Victoria, Australia) and aren't likely to completely fuck someone over.
Some areas - i can understand why you wouldn't even wanna go near them..... those cops are just out to put people in jail and ruin their lives!

I had my mother-in-law call the cops on me because we didn't answer the phone all day.

We were at work, then went to get groceries.
Cop knocks on the door after we get home, asks us whio we were ...yadayadayada...found out the in-law called the cops on us...........

what gives you the right to run someone else's life?
perhaps you should stick to your own.
self-destructive people know exactly what they are doing. Who are you to tell them? What great accomplishment have you made that puts you on a higher level?

of course not!
but bartenders are not always psychologists.
How do you know for a fact that someone is incapacitated, without being them?
the truth is, you don't
thats why I let people have their own judgement.
If they have shitty judgement, thats their fault, not mine. They deserve what they get.

Hello
alcohol.....impares......judgement
It's easy to tell when someone is too drunk to be driving.
If they can't walk a straight line to their car.......they don't need to be driving it. Calling the cops is the responsible thing to do, in that situation. Not only is he risking his life.....but the lives of everyone else on the road.
God put you there to stop him and you would let him go

Under the Noel Law the bartender is responsible for knowing, let the man drive and at the least it's his civil liability. his judgement is impaired because he'd been drinking, it's the bartenders job to know.

yeah, but in a situation where it's a choice between calling the cops and letting a completely drunk person drive, where all other possibilities have been exhausted (you can't take his keys, restrain him, etc.) it's the responsible thing to do
