i am afraid
    #5691373 - 05/30/06 04:47 PM (17 years, 7 months ago)

okay, so i inoculated my jars one week ago today and i still don't see any sign of mycelial growth. i sterilized my jars about 5 weeks ago but i read that wouldn't be a problem, most of them survived so i just used those ones. could it be that too much water evaporated out of the substrate during those 5 weeks, and if so should i try adding more water or just start over? i guess it's also possible that my spores weren't viable when i inoculated the jars but i really hope not.

Are you doing the PF, but either way that seems a little long.

At this point I would not add water, let them go and see wazz up, but it could be a slow go.

you should wait at least two weeks before planning a new project.  PF jars can be slow to start, slow to colonize, and can overall perform very poorly sometimes.

Good luck man

Well well. I had the same experience first time and the bad news is for my PINT jar it took 1 month and half to see an inch of myc! and I had to do it again!

At first I thought it was something to do with sterilizing them but nope! and was really hard to find out what it was cause no one gave me a proper answer (got one after a 1 month!)

The main problem with mine was I packed the subtrate in jars and that was the only reason it took so so long! I used a recipe on this web which was exactly for 4 jars so I thought I have to put them all in 4 jars while it was almost 1.5 more than it was necessary!

some one used the same recipe and had the same prob and told me to just fill in the jars about 1/2 or a 3/4 of jars with no pressure at all then dry vermiculate on top. now after 2 failures it is working fine and my first harvest was yesterday.

Good luck

If you read the pf-tek here it tells you that there will be some left over, and yea mine usally work out to about 1.5 left as well. I haven`t seen a tek yet that say to pack the jars, all of them say loosely put it in the jars. It needs air to grow and move so packing them will hurt. Sha2 the mst common problem with new grows is that they start to worry when the don`t see anything in a few days to a week so that is why patiences is a very popular word here, but you also make a good point about packing the jars being one of the new growers mistakes. I saw nothing in mine for 2 weeks, then boom there was a spot and then it run well, but I asure you I was in here as well asking the same questions everyone else was.
