Best sleep aids?
    #5691054 - 05/30/06 03:16 PM (17 years, 7 months ago)

I've been having a lot of trouble lately, not so much falling asleep, but rather staying asleep.  I wake up multiple times a night and it can take me 10, 20, 30 minutes to fall back asleep.

I've got a young child and he often wakes up at some point during the night, and I or my wife usually grab him and bring him to bed where he sleeps the rest of the night.  But often I have to get up at 5AM for work, he'll get up at four and I can barely fall asleep before I need to get up.  Even if he doesn't get me up I'll still wake up waiting for the dreaded alarm.

Any suggestions???  I haven't really tried anything except Jim Beam.
It seems anything I take will have worn off by early morning, and if it hasn't I'd be super groggy when I need to get up...

I think weed would actually be perfect but since I bought a house I just can't afford it :frown:
Anyone try Lunesta?

Alcohol can cause you to wake up earlier than usual. It happens to me. Last night for example, got drunk, passed out, then woke up a few hours later feeling like shit and all groggy.

I like Hydroxyzine pam and HCL version. Nyquil, seroquel, and benadryl. Benzos can be effective, but are overkill.. they make me sleep forever.

before you resort to chemicals to help sleep,

do you drink caffiene? coffee? soda, etc?
try drinking nothing but water and a juice every now & then.
how your diet?
well try eating healthier.

again, flush your system out with water
you'll feel a difference within a week let alone a month.

also,
do you excersize/workout?
burn some energy so that when it i time to sleep,
you are actually tired enough to do so.

i really hate seeing people turn to pills for a quik fix
when a simple solution such as this works wonders.

good luck dude.

Passionflower works quite well, it will keep you asleep anyway but it makes me feel groggy as fuck for that first half an hour when i get up.

I forgot to mention Chamomile tea.. I prefer it to drugs.. safer and more natural. It will usually get the job done for me, and doesn't make me feel "medicated up".

if all else fails from my suggestion above,
the only thing else i would recommend would be melatonin
as it is natural, paired with 5-htp for day time.

what i would then suggest is only using that
pill regimen until you have knocked your body into a normal
sleep pattern,
then stop taking them & rely on your own body to adjust.

Are you overweight? How many times do you wake up every night? Do you snore? If so, you may have sleep apnea, which would explain the constant wakenings.

I do snore, drives my wife fucking crazy, but no I'm not overweight at all. (27, 5'10'', 175lbs.)

So that might be an even better question, what causes my snoring....?

I hear alcohol makes it worse and sleeping on my back, too.

Save some cash, buy some weed. It is worth it. It was the only side-effect free cure for my insomnia.
