my pressure cooker doesn't have an insert

My pressure cooker did not come with an insert (metal plate or screen) to keep my jars off of the bottom of the pot.
I've read that I can use a towel instead.
Any comments on this method?

my first pressure cooker didn't come with the Tivet rack... so I used a handtowel til I ordered a Tivet rack for it.
I'd soak the handtowel til it was soaking wet... put it in the bottom of the pressure cooker as evenly as possible. then put 1" to 2" of water over the top of the towel. then load my jars in.
it worked out ok....one handtowel ended up getting a little burnt.
I prefer using the Tivet rack.

what brand and size pressure cooker do you have?
google search is great for finding "pressure cooker parts".

I destroyed mine the very first time I used my PC. I replaced it with one of these:

It doesn't open all the way in the PC but I could always trim the wings/leaves/whatever with a metal nippy tool.

I had the same problem and couldn't find anything locally..so I just used a deep tin pie pan. I turned it upside town, cut the edges until it would fit into my PC and then cut about 6 1/2" holes in it. The jars rest nicely on top of it while it cooks and ran me about 60cents.
