You got any Idea how much memory hogs alot of softsynths are? Yes they are coming out with new ones which are CPU efficient. But when you got all those VST's working together at the same time its gonna put a CPU to the test. I dont even think you'd be able to make a professional sounding track with a mac mini. Thats why alot of producers use either High end - over priced apples or PC's.

Apple's Logic has a freeze track feature, I run dozens of hardcore synths like the FM7 simultanously, but only have certain tracks rendering in real-time. Some of my tracks have close to 100 instruments when finally complete, it's just that they are not all running at the same time. If I wanted that I would have to use $1000s worth of dedicated TDM protools hardware or something. This is all on a G4 500mhz with 512mb of ram. And my shit sounds pro!! I have done remixes for the punk band Less Than Jake, which sound awesome. I have multiple releases on vinyl under the name synthique, check it out on itunes. You don't need expensive equipment to make pro sounding stuff.

Well I didnt know logic had that feature since I've never used it. But it sounds like it comes in handy. But I was never stating you need expenisve hardware to make good tracks. I originaly stated that alot of Mac's are over priced and are not required to make good music. That was my response as you implied that PC's suck and to get a Mac.
I checked out those tracks on iTunes....the ones that sounded something like daft punk. Not really my style...and the tracks sound "empty" to me. Not sure if its cause the streaming though itunes but it didnt sound "pro" to me. Upload some of your tracks if you dont mind though I'd love to check em out.
Also..why would you remix Less than Jake?

Nothing is better than Fruity Loops for sequencing. Nothing. Not even close. With Fruity Loops 5 and up, provided you use the piano roll, the freedom you have for beat placement is amazing. All other step sequencers, like Reason's for instance, allow you to place notes on, say beats 1 through 8 or 1 through 16, etc... depending on subdivision and tempo selection. Basically you're limited to eight notes, sixteenths, thirty seconds, and maybe triplets and a simulated drag or flam if you're lucky. With FL's piano roll, you can put the beat anywhere you fucking what. You can render a drum part just like a skilled drummer with chops would play it, provided you have the patience and skill, and half decent voices.
"Production" wise, there are probably better choices than Fruity Loops, like as far as manipulating sounds and what not, but for composition, I've seen nothing close to what FL allows you to do. You can produce the hell out of a lame club beat and it's still a lame mechanical sounding club beat. You can always compose with FL and produce with reason and acid or whatever. But to be honest, I've never really bothered using Reason or anything else because the sequencing is so laughable and because FL gives me incredible freedom. Though composing kick ass drum parts with piano roll takes foreeeeevvveeerrrrrr. You get what you put into it.
