Just look for bark gardens - thats the only place I've found them. Your looking for these.... http://www.shroomery.org/forums/files/06-21/870941561-shroom2.jpg
Note they should bruise blue easily and have a purple/purple brown spore print. If you find some that you think fit the description post them up - there are some poisonous lookalikes.

I havent even looked to be honest. They are a bit harder to ID because they dont go blue as easily - have your heard of people finding libertys in Chch?

well, Im new to mushrooms, but we found what we think are some liberties, but they were a bit too small to bother picking I thought. Didnt take any pics tho. They were aound the base of a tree in the grass vegre on the side of a residential street.
Looked VERY similar to the pics I've found on the net of Liberty's

Yeah they are supposed to like damp grassy fields. I might start looking for them - problem is they are pretty similar to loads of other "little brown mushrooms".
You need about 50 to trip on them.

The bark garden ones(the ones I found) are - Psilocybe subaerugrinosa, and the liberties are Psilocybe semilanceata.
Noone in NZ on the shroomery has confirmed a find of Psilocybe cyanescens (blue meanies)- although I have heard from numerous people that they are here in New Zealand. But no idea at all if they are in Christchurch. Bark gardens are your best bet(subs)- but if you go out to a cow farm you might find libertys and pans, you'd be the first to report them.

some others I noticed on the way to work this morning,.....after going out and picking them, they look a bit too different than the ones in your pic. And, I havent noticed any blue bruising yet, they do have a hollow stem tho.

it's kind of irrelevant to mushroom identification, but do people from new zealand have australian accents? or is it their own accent.
