when you lose all sense of time, you have no sense of where your body begins/ends, you think you are dying, you have no name (you say it to yourself but it is totally meaningless). i could go on, but that is how i felt when i had an experience of ego loss.
EDIT: by what i meant by i could go on, there are just so many facets to it that cannot be described in words. in fact, i think that is probably the best description right there: unexplainable.

when you take so many mushies, that you start freaking out because you out of your freakin mind, and you start walking around on all fours like a little dog begging for mercy, I'm not joking when I'm saying this,
also when you have delusional notions that you go through things like a ghost, and when you friend wants to beat you up because your yelling nonsensical b.s. really loud
When you go into comatose state, and you can't identify anything in reality, other than the fact you might be permanently screwed because your suspended in space with no frame of reference. Although this is just extreme paranoia

It's when you really "know" but there's no distinction between that knowing and yourself, or anything else and everything is one thing - usually a brilliant bright shimmering light in my experience.
It's in the merging and emerging that you have a definable realisation/comprehension, when you're in there it's a sensation of love in the extreme - beyond love, sheer and utter ecstatic wonder at existence in the infinite realms of reality...
...or simply "WOW!"

for me, it's when the'regular you' ceases to exist... or everything seems so much clearer and you look back at mundane reality and go "if only they knew..."
but ego death is another story

It is like theorganic says: you understand that you, and everyone and everything is one. Adolf Hitler and Mother Teresa - all indistinguishable, you are part of god and one with god, etc... there is also a neat little twist that you come across sometimes, it's like someone leans over and says "by the way, reality isn't actually real. This is the truth..." and what you see will really blow your mind!

When the concept of self, time, space, identiy and meaning all fall away : there is no "I" in your thoughts, and even if there is an "I" in them, there is no meaning attached to it, there is simply 'just being'.
