Fuzzy Cake, good or bad, *PIC*
    #568851 - 03/03/02 07:09 PM (15 years, 3 months ago)

This had some green on it in the jar 24hrs ago. I removed it from the jar and cut off the green as best as I could, being as sterile as possible. The white fuzzy area is the area that got cut as well as the area that wasn?t colonized. It is in a terrarium at 75' F with 98+% humidity. Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

Thanx

Sorry bro,

Looks like you got the dreaded Cob Web mold.
You could try and spray it down with 10 to 1 .....water and peroxide.
But that cake does look like a gonner.

Looks like your Mycelium has just overgrown due to most likey a too hot environment. The foil looks like it is reflecting a space heater or heat light. I think your environment is too hot. Try a drop in temperature to premote pinning. If this doesn't work then maybe that green bacteria or mold killed the cake. I would never keep a cake which showed signs of contamination. Anyway, good luck.

Spacecruiser, the mycelium will not overgrow to overly hot temperatures. That which is growing is for sure not mycelium, its oviously some sort of contam.

My mycelium has never looked like that before.. hmm

What strain is that shroom? Some strains like Thai KS, are fluffy colonisers..

Too many people jumping the gun here.. Watch that cake to see what it does in the next day or so.. Quarantining (as someone already mentioned) would be a good idea...

i guarantee thats cobweb mold. there is no question about it. if that was in your fruiting chamber; watch your other cakes VERY closely for the same contam.

Note the date of the 1st post, it was 3-3. Here?s what happened. The cake had some GREEN on it coming out of the jar. I cut it off as suggested and put it in the fruiting chamber. About 12hrs later everywhere I cut had the white fluffy stuff just like in the picture. It looked like a contam, people on the board here agreed; I tossed it out that day. It's long gone to a landfill.
