I read somewhere that mescaline is produced by the cactus during stressful living conditions......anyone heard this also? I just planted a San Pedro (13inches) that I got from Home Depot (for 8 bucks!!!!) I love the little guy, just want to know what I should do.....

You're probably better off giving it good growing conditions, to increase mass.

You should probably let it grow a year or two before you eat it. They like well drained soil, cactus/succulent mix is good and a top dressing of manure(old and dry just how shrooms like it) or compost. If you want to stress the plant into making more drugs this is what ive heard not tested, cut back on watering - do it once a month, or keep the plant in a dark closet. the best thing would be to let the plant get bigger and take good care of it and the plant will in turn take good care of you.

There's no evidence to support the stressing idea.
What happens:
The cactus weighs substantially less after a long period of not watering. It begins to suck in its ribs. Thus, the amount of weight in water is reduced, and overall potency by weight is increased. Like drying mushrooms, or anything for that matter.
Cacti need nutrients to produce alkaloids. Care for your cacti, and you'll get what you want in return.

yeah thatd be the best to not stress your cacti at all, but if you want to, you should let it get really good or you should grow a few and test it and let us knwo if stressing it is any better or worse than beaving it be healthy how it likes it

Just take good care of it. Buy a good cacti fertilizer. Feeding it well and often will do more than stressing ever could.

I remember seeing a video, in which a shaman was at the local market in Peru, picking up Pedro for some tea. The Shaman stated that she looked for Pedro that was "scared, old, and discolored because of the high potency.......

Do a search on "doping it", mucuna pruriens has large amounts of L- dopa, and this year I'm thinking of trying to dope it with an extract of that?!?!?!? might work, might not.
