What part of the horizon does it rise in? As in the sun rises in the east, what direction does the moon rise in?

Moon compass, for the Wood Lords: Stick a staff into the ground on a moonlit night. Make a Mark at the tip of the shadow. Ten minutes later, mark the new point of the tip of the shadow. Draw a line in the sand between the two points. This line is East West. Follow the wind at your back.
