So I am going camping for the first time in Algonquin Park this weekend. Except for my cottage I have never spent time in the outdoors like this before. I am going with one friend who has never slept in a tent before. Should be interesting! Any tips???

I assume that your driving into a camping spot, opposed to hiking or portaging in.
Bring BUG SPRAY there are blackflies and misquitoes aplenty.
Bring water, the water in the main coridor of the park is often under an advisory and you'll have to boil it, if you can drink it at all, whereas the water in the backwoods you can pretty much drink from the lake.
DO NOT leave any food out, put EVERYTHING in the car, all food and cooking items, racoons will ravage your site, there are also bears.
Bring an extra tarp to put over the tents incase it rains, which it most likely will, the weather can be really iffy and its rains almost everytime somewhere in the park everytime I pass through.
DO NOT SPEED on hwy 60, the road thru the park. There are cops and park rangers, also if you hit a moose, it will total your car, nevermind the guilt you'll feel from hitting a smaller animal. Seriously watch out for moose.
Get gas in Huntsville. There are no gas stations in the park and depending on how far along you go, that could mean no gas for 2 hours.
Bring a camera, its one of the most beautiful places I know of and take advantage of the park, go hiking, canoeing, biking. Enjoy!

algonquin park also has one of the best wolve populations in the world, so if your lucky enough you may hear them howling.

Algonquin Peak in the Adirondacks... much smaller than yours... but this is the second highest peak in NY.

Thanks Gillette... yeah I am reading your post now (sunday night).. I just got back. Yeah, we packed WAY to much stuff, too much of all the wrong stuff of course! We took the back packers hiking trail to Provoking lake, and with our packs full of useless stuff, it was pretty intense. But definately worth the treck!!! I learned a lot about what NOT to do next time, I guess it is a learning process. My cottage is close by (Haliburton) however I never have spent time without the luxuries like that. To sum up, absolutely gorgeous!!! Planning to go back next weekend!
And yes Rocky, we did hear the wolves at night. Pretty neat reminder of how small we are in the bigger picture.

crazy since you don't camp tho, I would have given you a whole different set of guidelines for that.
