So I'm what you'd call a neophyte...
    #5683715 - 05/28/06 04:04 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

Hi, everyone. How's your Sunday?

I'm a neophyte grower and I've pretty much decided to go with this kit:
University Scientific Auto-Watering Electric Mushroom Grow Chamber

Anyone familiar with this? I'm concerned about sterility and contams, which is why I opted to not make my own kit. I work in research lab where sterility is key, so I'm abit nervous because I don't have autoclaves and whatnot at home. My other options in order of preferabilty are:
Mushroom Grow Bag Morchella Kit

EZ Gro Mushroomkit (advertised in High Times, which interested me in this endevor.)

If sterility is going to be a problem with first kit, I'd rather go with something guaranteed "sterile," so that I could have at least assurance of a replacement or money back. I have heard bad things about SporeBank, but that could be just once incidence.

Second question, while I have your gracious attention, I'm deciding between Puerto Rican and Cambodian strains. Which would be better? Cambodians are allegedly Fast Colonizers, Abudant Fruiters, and Higher Potentcy. However, when I research the Puerto Rican strain, people are exceptionally excited about it's potentcy and many sources say it is easily top 5 potentcy while easy to grow. In fact, I found this place because of the user "Joshua"'s postings about growing PRs. Is he still around?

Other kits, other strains?

Even speculations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I would say,

No,

No,

No,

My thought is unless your going to grow once or twice of a thing they are a waste of money, just making someone rich cause you dont research what you need and get it your self.

I guess any of them would work, though I did not look at them long, cause there all the same, not what you need.

Are you going to do cakes or cases is the first question,

For all that I would get a PC and go strait to grains spawned to hpoo. That's basically the Cadillac of growing, and is very simple. Just need to put the time in a read!

And either cube that you mentions are nice

Good luck man

I hear University Scientific is a scam. I never bought a kit (most people don't), so I can't confirm this.

"Smelled funny."?

Being vetern mushroom growers such as yourselves, are the Teks here good? I wouldn't know, obviously...

And the PC would probably be the most expensive piece of equipment, right?

this site is the difinitive source on the hobby, without a PC I recomend starting with the PF tek, after innoculating the jars you'll have time to read and ask questions

The only vendor that I support are the spores ones. There is unfortunately a lot of disinformation out there, people looking to make money cause some dont take the time to learn.

The only thing that you need that you cant around you are the spores. Everything else you can DO

Yeah, I've been reading the last couple of days and the only one I didn't know was the brf. Is there a list common abbreviations for this site somewhere?

Also, tips on where to buy the spores?

Well, I'm sure they're refering the caffeine factor; however, not sure if it affects fungi as it does humans. I don't know enough about how caffeine works in our systems (what receptors it binds to and such).

this issue is constantly brought up, why get a kit when you can do it yourself.

Simple, alot of people don't have the time or energy to invest in the trial and error process of creating a successful mushroom growing kit. The prices for kits at www.mushbox.com are worth the knowledge put in 1 package , guaranteed to produce results.

The MYG kit is guaranteed or you get a 2nd one free, there is no other offer like this on the internet, and you can even get additional 20$ off if you enter the code MYG4ME at www.mushbox.com/myg.html

All the power to anyone who puts the effort into making there own homeade kit. Its not that hard, but if you want to save time and just get what works, guaranteed, then come and visit our website.
