So i'm looking at getting a HEPA filtered air purifier, and in the process, saw these filterless, bladed ionizers. Are they any good?

The 'ionizers' are not a substitute for HEPA.

If you get one of those stand alone hepa's, be sure to shut it off when you do any kind of sterile work, or even when you fan out your FC. The turbulence they create stirs up and circulates more contaminants than they filter out. I used to run one in every major room of the house, but now they're all sitting in the storage shed. My contamination problems are less without the hepas. Now, I do LOVE my flowhood, but those units you buy at the hardware store aren't worth getting, imo. RR

I am exactly the opposite I run my hepa in the tent while I do the work. Never had a contam.
sometimes I run it like this and sometimes if I am using a lot of lyson I open the tent a little and have it filtering in fresh air. I g2g'd 21 jars without a single contam and open my tubs all the time. I think Ultimatly though putting it outside and piping it in with a screen over the exhaust would be better that way it would be possitively pressurized. It may just be do that I am working in a much smaller area??? comments? Working in front of a flowhood stirs the air up as well but I guess just not where your working?

A flowhood barely bends a candle flame over, so doesn't stir up turbulence. They also have laminar flow to give a nice even sterile area. Wait until you've done a few hundred g2g, and I'm sure you'll be working with that fan off. RR

In fact it was a screwed up G2g. I could not get the lid off the Spawn jar so I pulled the polyfil out of the 1 inch hole. Loosened all the lids then lifted the lid off a jar and banged the other jar over them. So it would come out the whole. I was surprised I did not get a contam. Well really I work in that tiny tent. if the Hepa blows for awhile especially if I possitively pressurize it wouldnt it clean all the air. I do not have room for a flowhood. mabey one like agars but I would need to talk to him before I built one I like his though
