If God was going to get us out of this it wouldn't be much of an apocalypse.
There's a God but I've got a feeling he'll be sitting this one out and letting mankind get the results of what they created for themselves.

O.K. enough about religion. God helps those that help themselves anyway, so let's get back to figuring out how to help ourselves.

Filtered water teks in the wild:
ALong sandy beaches or salty Dessert lakes, dig a hole in a sand depression 100 feet from the shore. Filtered water will gradually seep into the hole. The depth of the hole depends on the distance from the shore and also regulates how fast the water will flow.
Conserving water: Do not remove clothes, even in the sun, loose layers of clotches help control sweating. Stay in the shade. Move slowly to conserve water and energy( depending on the situation) Move fast if you need to swing swift and take down an enemy with a stone fist. Drink in small sips. Do not gulp even if you have plenty of water to spare. Only moisten your lips if your water supply is critical. To allay thirts: keep a small pebble or other item( grass, button, Etc) in your mouth. Breath through your nose and avoid talking.

I imagine thirst is mostly mental.I assume this is why moitening the lips is all that is needed.

Quite frankly, finding edible fungus is much easier for me than edible plants. Because of the nature of an edible fungus, it can easily become available. But none is more deadly than fungi mis information. Plants on the other hand, while most all can be consumed, without death or severe pain, have a much broader spectrum than fungi. And IMO plant hunting is even funner than mushrooms( wait, nevermind )
None the less, searching for wild ginseng is a BLAST! Knowing edible plants in full of a forest is MUCH harder than knowing the edible fungus that may grow in that forest. I've drank like a king with wild brews. I made wine from clovers, carrots, ginger and dandelions. All picked locally, all picked wild. Best wine ever, and I only let it age six months. It was about 14% because I added some concentrated yeast. None the less, these items can produce small amounts of alcohol, even without added yeast. It just takes TIME. Lots of it. And a lot of the time, you will spoil the stew, because of contams.
FYI, someone asked earlier about where to get yeast: It occurs naturally in lots of plants. Wild grapes and berries also contain WILD YEAST. Even a wild concoction of surgery plants and fruits, will produce even a light alcohol content... anywhere from 1% on up. Good thing I have the bomb-est wild Muskadine patch ever( in fact, they grow almost everywhere in GA), Muskadines are wild grapes with an astonishingly high natural yeast content.

For purifying water, if you can find a piece of plastic, a cup and a pot. Water goes in the pot, the cup goes in the middle of the pot. The plastic drapes over the pot with a small stone in the middle to create an inverted cone so the water can evaporate and condense on the plastic, then drip into the cup.
A piece of silver can purify water, too. Like a silver coin. Having a silver coin would be unlikely, though. A sheet of plastic would be easier to find.

I like the silver coin idea. Does that work because the silver binds trace metals to its surface, that may be in the water???? Distilling water is a really good way of getting clean water in the wild, but requires some sort of setup.

yeah, any way you can get the water to evaporate and condense will clean it enough to drink. But it also take out good minerals, too. Only use a still if you can't find running water. A clean stream my give you the runs, but you will adapt. Better to have the shits for a week than to have to lug a water purifier around.
