basically if u dnt plan, you are dead considering the END will come so quickly the roads are so packed you WILL be faced with walking and will die of thirst hunger. it is simple if you pack a backpack full of dry grain and a sleeping back and carry a galon of water

But one thing you missed,we are all talking about relocating to a forest.
As I stated earlier in this thread,a whole new set of "rules" would be needed to survive in places like the desert.More things like insects would have to be eaten.
true, but it still can't be ignored. what if for some reason you are weeks worth of walking away from a forest, so somehow you would have to "live off the land" where you are for the time being.
everything isn't as simple as people make it out to be in their posts in this thread.
Well of course it isnt as easy as everyone says.Hardly any of us have any experience with this sort of thing,Having to do it I mean. This is all hypothetical.
You are right though,it cannot be ignored. But I dont know much about surviving in the desert. We need someone to chime in the ToTheSummit, who has experience with camping/hiking and survivng in the desert. We need info on things like: What edible plants to look for. What plants can be used for rope and tools..ect
Thats what this thread is for afterall.o learn new ways of survivning.
In a desert I think water storage would be most important. That wya when it actually does rain, you could save the water as long as you needed to.You could store water in leather pouches and what not,but that doesnt really solve ways of long time storing water. Some sort of well or resvoir would be need to keep water from evaporating.

rig up some fans to be dehydrators. take out the fan part and its axel, if you will, and hook it up to a hand pump and put whatever you wanna dry (apples, potatoes, etc dry these every year you have even a little extra, you never know what next year will bring) in the box and the fan will shoot air into the box and create all sorts of strong waves and u can easily dry food. that is, shoot the air at the wall of the box so it comes back and hits your food twice.
store food in metal containers underground away from ur house so people cant rob u, cant hide in the woods and watch u go to the stash and then rob u
dunno about where you live, but here in the south we can everything we grow. we have jars of many different types of fruits and veggies. every year, we harvest then spend a week or so canning everything. once in jars. everything keeps for years.

If you are on the move, carrying heavy jars would be a hassle.
But on the other hand if you stay in a centralized location you could take advantage of this.
Im in the southeast and I know what you mean.Everyone cans things.

I have a wilderness survival handbook with 20 chapter's with everything from shelter building, fire making, food collecting, climate conditions, + much more. Thing is, I knew most of it already before I got the book.
But, I DO like the tek, of catching water birds to eat, while wearing bottles on your head.
You throw bottles ( large plastic ones) out into an area where birds frequently swim. They then become used to these objects. Docile. Then, you put a plastic bottle OVER YOUR HEAD( with breathing apparatus) and slowly swim towards the ducks. They pay no attention to you. You swim slowly right up to them, and quickly grab their legs, and pull them under, twisting their necks, or drowning them.
I need to post more ideas from the book, but I don't feel like looking it up Buy it.

That pretty interesting. You could use this same concept for other things besides water fowl and water bottles. But I can see how the plastic bottles would aid in creating a breathing apparatus.
Whats the name of the book, all mighty medievel forest prince?

In the hunting an trapping chapter it says
" the Native Americans used traps such as: Dead-fall traps made from logs and boulders, snares made from horse hare, pitfall traps for birds and animals, woven baskets to catch fish and animals, toxic plants to paralyze fish, so they float to the surface. Driving buffalo over cliffs."
" Animals are curious, place a brightly colored handkerchief such as a flag on a stick, the cloth will attract antelope and deer who will walk right up to you. Small vermin are attracted to NEW NOISES SUCH AS WHISTLING OR BLOWING ON GRASS BETWEEN THE THUMBS( OOPS, CAPS_) "
They will come out of their hole to see what is up( that's when you snare them, or shoot them with a bow or spear or gun)
" Eskimos would place snares in shallow lakes to catch diving birds, these lines would be 60 feet long with 30 snares per line"
This book is one inch thick, with tons of good stuff.

i dont know if you guys have heard of them, but i grew up with a series of books called Foxfire. they basically went into the appalacian mountains and talked to the old people to find out how they live. it was made in the 60's and 70's. teaches everything from spinning thread to building stils to curing animals of disease to planting gardens.

every ahole can wright a survival handbook (surBible) but i doubt it talks about sprouting. when u sprout you can make 1 pound of food feed 4 times the amount of people as if u dont sprout. plus u need to somehow sterilize the sprout surface, either a jar or a hemp bag that holds the sprouts so the pesky contaminates that shroomery bitches bout dont start molding ur sprouts. u can use 1 drop of bleach or sundry to kill the mold and reuse the container.
i think indians used sinew's from animals. i dunno what sinew is, id say find a dead deer or i would never kill 1 but just cut it up and see what u find that looks like long and thin and just twist it up.

Bow: Use a willow shaft, or any straight flexible FRESHLY CUT SAPPLING. Bowstring: A shoelace, dried sinew, or cordage made from plants( which ones?) can be used. The string will carry the arrow 15 to 20 yards for small game. Arrows: Arrows have to be STRAIGHT AND THIN. Willow branch is a good choice, peel off the bark, and let the shaft dry. Scrape off any bumps. Arrow shafts can be made from reed with a hard wood insert as an arrowhead. Fletching: Tie a feather to the shaft to give the arrow better stability. A peice of a leaf or wing from a maple tree seed can be used. Arrowhead: An arrow with a BLUNT head can be effective. Metal from tin cans, sharpened rocks, pen tips.
Good thing I have a store bought bow. It will shoow five times harder and farther than a woodland bow. None the less, ANY bow is better than a spear.

This troubles me.Somthing happening which causes us to revert to this sort of lifestyle is a prefect chance to live the way you want to or think is fit.
I eat meat. But I think it is wrong to take the life of an animal. But if you plan to use every part of the animal,is it justified?
This is all personal preference so everyone will have a different view on it.
But things like leather and bone are very important to survival.Sure you could scavange dead thigs to get these materials, but that isnt very practical.
I dunno what point I was tring to make with this post,I guess I was just getting that tid bit out in the open.
Not all of us want to go straight vegan, and not all of us want to eat meat and kill animals to survive.

Someone else was talking about these "concentration camps".I think it is mere paranoia. But who knows. It sure seems believable and our goverement would do it.But whats a government good for without people to rule over?
