Planet Earth: The endgame..

I thought it would be nice to have a thread for all of the "end is near" survivalist folks to post in and exchange ideas on catching/harvesting food, weapons crafting/blacksmithing, thread and clothmaking, unique power sources, food storage/emergency preparedness, escape plans and the like...
I'm about to get very serious about all of this type of stuff. I'm not usually a "the end is near" type of guy, but shit is bound to hit the fucking fan soon. I can feel it coming like you can smell the rain coming on a hot summer day.
what are some of your ideas for surviving against all odds?

Food, water, shelter is a good topic. Grow your own or buy from the store. Fresh water, well you can go to the local stream, but if you have no local stream you are fucked. Shelter, a nice home will do the trick.
But say a apocalypse is going to occur, you may lose your shelter, say a lvl 10 hurricane comes along and wipes out every house in FL and as it travels up north wiping out more homes. Floods will occur, crops will be lost.
I can easily go fishing and catch a meal for the night, that's if the fish are biting. Plus it costs money to get a fishing pole.
Unless you go all survival gung ho on this and start from scratch. Build your own bowls, pottery from clay found in the earth. But of course if you want it to be easy you'd go to the local art store and buy your own clay.
--------- Another thing that would be fun is to get dropped off on a deserted island with say 20 people and you start there from scratch and see if you are capable of surviving. Maybe an island in the phillipines.
I could go on but i'll end it here.
Peace, Octavius

Mushrooms, vegetables, herb, etc.
Urban areas will become untolerable (more than they already are). grocery stores will be gone. Money worthless. There will be some degree of safety in the mountains, but probably not much safety at all in the United States.
I'm thinking of living near a relatively unsecure canadian border as a safeguard.

Hey if you guys had a chance to go to an island to live would you? I mean start from scratch, just have a little bit of money to pay for a little bit of provisions and that's it.
Would you be interested?

I would definately do it if we actually helped each other build houses.
If we were just gonna sit in tents and smoke dope then I would have to say no. (fun as that might be)

I like this idea for a thread. With all the dooms day talk going on.My interest has slowly been peaked.
For me,it isn't really a feeling or belief that the "end" or some type of social and political upheaval is inevitable(although this is very likely) it is more of a want for this to happen.
For some reason, trying to survive in a post apocalyptic world would be very interesting.Hard nonetheless but you could count on your life being exciting and eventful.

On the basis of this thread...Basic knowledge of identifying medicinal and edible plants would be very important.Knowledge of how to distill various alcohols would be a good skill to have as well.Although I wouldn't know where to get yeast. But thats what this thread is for,to learn different ways to do these things.
A person would definitely need to defend himself. And a gun is not very practical.Sure you could arm your self with a gun the first few years after some sort of political of economical disaster. But what about later in life when there are no gun stores and sporting good stores to loot from? What will you do then?Load your own shells?Unless you have a salt peter mine, that is highly unlikely.
A person would need to arm his/her self with things like spears bow and arrow and knives made of "primitive" things like flint and other minerals.
hmmm, this is interesting to think about.I am trying to create a scenario in my head of something like, being attacked by another person or group of people or setting up traps and the like to get food.
Allot of survival practice will be needed for a person to survive. In the first year or two after a large scale economical event happening(peak oil and other "theories") would be when most people would die.Your regular suburbanite would not be able to cope.

I'm talking like start from scratch. Get dropped off on an island and build from nothing.
Exactly how the movie beach was w/o the weed.

I'm not into pilliaging, just survival. Everyone else is in the same boat and deserves respect and assistance if needed when possible.
I think it would be good to go to uninhabited lands somewhere. The trouble is that most of those which remain uninhabited are that way because it's too fuckin' cold there.
I still think the golden rule of thumb is get the hell out of the United States first, and then stop to ask questions later.

Great human spirit you got there.

An island would not be the best idea.
Geographic location is going to be very important. No matter how many people you fight off you still have to deal with mother nature.

How many posts do you have displayed per page? Only 10? That's ridiculous, especially considering the growth in users and posts. I always had the shroomery set to display 20 posts per page and I recently upped it to 30. 40 isn't too far off.
