I found these growing in my back yard and I was wondering if someone could share some intellect. I was wondering what kind and if they are "edible". the stems are solid and the gills are a buff kind of color and the cap has a darker "but still very light" brown ring around the bottom of the cap there is some VERY light bluing on the base where the mushroom was pulled from the ground. the average size of the cap is about 2 1/2cm but the largest is about 5cm. any info would be great thank you.

Yeah, not active. The blue could be just the mycelium reflecting light of the sky or whatever. If you are wanting to see blue your mind will almost get you to believe it really is blue, when in fact is just white.

They look at first like Marasmius. Try bending the stem and see how flexible it is - can you bend it a bunch without breaking?
Happy mushrooming!

Marasmius oreades is an edible yes, choice infact. But there are toxic look-a-likes so be sure what you have is indeed Marasmius oreades.
Clitocybe dealbata is one, and also has a white spore print. It's hard to say from the gill shot you took, but I believe that is what you may have. I would not eat these.

Yep, those are Marasmius oreades you have there, I eat them all the time.
Discard the stipes (stems), they're very tough and fibrous, just keep the caps. I prefer drying them out and reconstituting as and when, gives them more flavour IMO.
You can easily tell the difference between Clitocybe dealbata/other Clitocybe species. Clitocybe have decurrent gills (gills running down the stem.)
I think they go particularly well with ham (especially ham & cheese omelets )
Enjoy

MadSeasonAbove, you are correct to warn about Clitocybe dealbata. But the flexible stem test I recommended specifically excludes that species, as C. dealbata has a brittle, stiff stem. Don't take this as a criticism of your warning people away from potentially dangerous mushrooms, that's something that everyone who knows a bit about mushrooms needs to keep doing. We are way better off keeping people form getting to the emergency room whenever possible.
Happy mushrooming!
