Just been hunting and found some shrooms that I've never come across before please help ID ( was found wet)
Cap: *Dark chocolate brown in colour *3cm diameter
Stem: *About 7-8cm long *about 1cm diameter *Mostly purple in colour with blue areas and white areas *hollow Gills: *Dark chocolate brown like cap with dryer bits more a tan colour *Adnexed *Has purple mixed in with brown. (I think)
Habitat: *Found in eastern hills of Lower Hutt, Wellington *Growing in pretty open bush in mulchy area.
Couldn't get a spore print, too wet. Will take one when its dry enough. Will also post pics later, digicam is charging.

Might be a good idea to get some pictures up. I would suggest that you not eat them until they can be more positively identified.. after we see your pics and all.
Based on that description it sounds possibly active. Especially the part about the blue on the stems. Psilocybes will bruise distinctly blue. Be careful not to mistake this for something else. Bluing can be random, appearing as small, or even large blue marks on the stem and caps. Most of the actives will turn blue in more spots when squeezed or damaged. It's random and variable.
The purple marks could be spore deposits.. this can happen on the stem and cap.. just a guess though, based on your description and since there are no pictures.
Usually wet caps will still spore print.. maybe you can towel them off with a paper towel. Let the caps sit on the paper for some time for a nice thick print.

Thanks, Pictures are coming but i'm going to let the mushrooms dry a little. I don't plan on eating them unless they are 100% IDed.

It does sound promising from the description, a pic will hopefully confirm your suspicions.
The purple sounds a little wierd though - it this right on the edge of the cap per chance?

Wow, after seeing the pics, I would have to say they don't look like Psilocybes.
Where did you see the blue on those things? I can't see any in the pictures. Part of the reason I mentioned above that you can't mistake these things.. it will be a distinct unmistakable blue. I've seen people claim that things were bluing on here in the past, but were wrong. Maybe I'm just missing something, shrug.
Do a spore print, that should help. From the looks of those gills, I wouldn't expect a purple brown print. A lot of the mushrooms in NZ are different from the ones found around here though. The marks on the stem look more like a pigment than spores after seeing the pictures. Some mushrooms found in north america anyway that have purple on them with brownish gills are Cortinarius and Inocybe.
Those are really soggy too!

Thanks, I can't get a clearer picture. There is blue in there its just mixed with the purple so it is really hard to see in the pics.
Not going to eat them, looks like these are going in the bin
