Hunting questions

i have been hunting twice before with moderate succses. no edibles or actives, but i did get some nice pics....
anyways, i went hunting today, and it has been raining almost every other day for the past few weeks here so i thought that it would be for good hunting, but all i found were the mushrooms that grow on dead trees i think the weather has something to do with it. i live in north-central TN and i hunt in the deciduous forest by my house. the temp is now ranging upper 80s-low90s and is very humid. the last time i hunted was just a few hours ago and the last rain was last night. is it out of season for any edibles and/or actives? or is it just bad weather?
also, any tips for hunting would be greatly appreciated.
thanx for reading this and for the help

For actives, you have to find out what species exactly that you are looking for. You can find that info in a distribution document. Find out what occurs in your state..
After that find what time of year and in which habitat to look for that species, (google, FAQ, search posts).
Just randomly going outside and hunting all over the place is not a very successful way of finding actives. I do it all the time though, but just because I'm more into edibles, and studying/identifying/photographing wild finds.
The woods is a good place to look for edibles. Edibles come in all shapes, sizes, and colors though..

Well that sounds good. I'm the same way pretty much. You get the hang of finding them with some experience. I've been doing it for 10 years or something, I lose track.
Woods are by far my favorite place to hunt in. I started to use this web site to log some of my finds. You can store pictures on here and even add little captions to them.
Moist, cool, and shady areas are some of the best to look in. Of course, rain is needed for most massive fruitings to occur. Some places are loaded with mushrooms even weeks after a rain.. moist shady areas. Places where there is a lot of water, creeks, streams, rivers.

hmmm well there is a river that runs through the forest and a rope swing off of a tree and a little camping area off to the side. i use that as sort of a base camp. so how long after the rain should i expect to find them? i mean, they just dont pop up immediately after the rain, right? a couple of days i might guess...
unfortunately, they're building a bunch of crap and knockng over all the trees in the forest , so im running out of room....
than for the tips. ill go hunting tomorrow and ill tell you what i find.

It's variable.. some things come up less than 24 hours after a rain, others can take much longer. I go out for about 3-5 days straight sometimes after the rains - unless looking for morels, which is different. They take way longer. Morel season is probably over in most places now.
Good luck, looking forward to some pics,
