unless you like starving yourself.
I thought your perspective a little odd.

you want a real bang for the buck
juice beets instead of fruits...
either way, after a couple weeks you'll be a walking fireball;
the toxins start coming out through you're skin as red blotches.

I will start tomorrow...a slightly different approach
instead of the spritual'ena its chlorella, sea weed, etc...
I juice the beets, celery, broccoli, carrots.
its all about colors...
and 2 glasses of red wine

I'd like to go on a fast, however, I don't think my body will have enough fat to burn to be able to have energy to go through with my active lifestyle.
I'm 6'1, 146 pounds. I consider myself pretty muscular, as in Bruce Lee kind of muscular. I've got a six pack and am built well, but I don't have much to burn if I were to stop eating for several days.
The fruit diet seems to be the only alternative for me, but if I eat fruit, can I eat veggies, too? And if not, why?

For you Bruce, I would try a raw fruit and veggie diet for awhile to clear things out. The only problem is if you do it for long you get pretty yin and quit trying to kick ass.
I did my 19 day fast when I was a lean and mean Martial Arts Instructor in Seattle. If you don't have a lot of extra you won't lose a lot.

Martial Arts Instructor?! That's pretty raw, Icelander. What'd you teach?
I'd like to join a dojo, but every one in the local area charges $90-120/month, and for a student, that's no chum change.
Back to fasting, I have a habit of not eating all day, then coming home, and stuffing myself before bed. I usually have an active day (not today, I just quit my sales job), and can't imagine to coming home to a celery stick and a carrot dinner. I can also see myself becoming Skeletor at that rate.

A lot of extra fat, you mean? I'm not doing this to cut, or lose weight, I was actually thinking of doing this strictly for spiritual purposes. Kinda going along with my altruism = awareness theory.

i miss living in seattle... hell, the PNW in general.
hmmm, you got me contemplating the fast, may join in a couple days.
slightly paranoid about these muscle mass and kidney concerns brought up though.
if you were shopping for the week, how much fruit juice and would you pick up? you do spirulina powder? a lot cheaper than the pills i guess, but yeeech.

I taught Non-Classical Wing Chun or Wing Chun Do a style developed by Bruce Lee when he lived in Seattle and taught to James DeMile who first taught it to the public.
If you want to fast for spiritual purposes then the diluted fruit juice only fast is best by far. When you talk about eating anything you're way out of the realm of fasting. It's best to fast in warm weather when you are not obligated to be at work. If possible.

If you have concerns about fasting then educate yourself. I recommended two excellent pamplet books on fasting in this thread.
I drink about 1 1/2 quarts of fruit juice a day. I dilute it to 1/3 juice and 2/3 water. I add stevia to sweeten it without adding sugar. You can hardly tell the difference from the whole fruit juice. I also take a bulking fiber 2 or three times a day. I take one rounded tbl. spoon of spirulina in some diluted v-8 juice with a little hot sauce to spice it up a bit twice a day.

Cosmic Joke come back to the PNW. As Jim Morrison said," the West is the best, get here and we'll do the rest."

For me, the purpose of a spiritual fast is for abstination of bodily pleasures to unite it with my mind and spirit. A diet I do not need, I eat fairly healthy, and the last thing I need is to lose weight. When I can take a break, I'll take on the juice diet, I think it holds a lot of potential.
How'd you get about studying Wing Chun, and how many years did it take you to master it? I'm quite curious...

i've looked into fasting for a long time but it's really hard to weigh out all the contridictary information. my partner is an RN, and we've just had a conversation about it. he's supporting the idea of a 7 day fast, so i think that's what i'll commit to at first.
part of the problem with living in seattle right now is finances, i lived way out on MLK and S. 129th St. and paid $880/mo, and i'd really like to be living in Capitol Hill, but i just can't afford it (places i looked at were like $2000/mo). when i finish up my library sciences degree and if find work there, i wouldn't hesistate in going back. i think i'd be all right living in Portland too. i could totally see myself retiring and living out around bellingham, i find it breath takingly beautiful in those areas like deception pass.

I studied Karate for about 7 years and realized that I didn't know how to fight. I read Bruce Lees Jeet Koon Do and realized he was on to something big. I traveled to the West because I heard that that's where the top guns were at. I had just about given up on Seattle when I saw a poster for a demo. I went and was blown away. I signed up as one of the first students of my instructor.
Master it? I never did. I was pretty good in some ways. I became the senior student and taught all the beginning classes. Wing Chun is very easy to get good at really. I was a much better fighter in three months as I was in 7 years of Karate. It's really an amazing style and my teachers were the real deal. I never got near to their level. I couldn't touch them in fact.
In the end I'm not really a fighter. I'm more of a misguided lover.

I went to class every day and practiced kata. It didn't really relate to street fighting. Karate is traditional and really assumes the opponent will fight in traditional ways also. The long stances and torquing (rather than converging) punches are sure losers in tight corners and crowded bars. It takes too long to become proficient as far as I can see.
