Growing from kits - first timer in need of some advice

Hey there shroomery folk
I've bought myself i nice little grow kit located here: http://www.deva-ethnobotanicals.com/proddetail.php?prod=002506 and the deed has been done, the spores are injected, they are the cubensis variety, 'treasure coast', chosen purely because they are sub-tropical, (im in the UK) and they have a very exciting name! So my question is this, it says: Once fully colonized the mixed grain spawn may be used to inoculate other bulk mediums such as pasteurized straw, sawdust, hardwood blocks, ect. So firstly, i've worked out from trolling round this site that i can use perlite, which is handy cause i've got loads lying around, so is an hour or so in an oven at 200 celcius good to sterilise it? And secondly, what can i put my substrate in? I have a propagator lying around somewhere so if i sterilise it with a weak bleach solution do i just put my grain/mycelium/perlite mix straight into it and spray it with the boiled and cooled water?
Thanks i really appreciate your help Joe

Are you saying that you are going to mix the perlite into the mix? Thats a nono....What ya need to do is just, case the bag with a 50/50(verm/peat) or 70/30(verm/coir) casing mix... If i were you i would keep it in the bag it is in right now, when it is done colonizing, then put a layer of casing on it, then roll down the sides so that there is like 2 inches of plastic above the substrate, then put a larger bag over it with wet perlite on the bottom and the wallah, fruit it like its hot....
Well, that is what i would do....But i'm new to this hobby, so it might be wrong...

bulk medium = "food" for mushrooms
perlite = not food. perlite is used because when wet, it gives off humidity. a layer of dampened perlite in the bottom of a container will keep that container at near 100% humidity with no further effort. has nothing to do with feeding the mushrooms and certainly shouldn't be considered a bulk medium.
you got 3 choices 1. do what dude up there says and fruit from the bag. 2. do a hell of a lot more research on bulk and use the contents of your bag as spawn to get the bulk going. you'll want to use something that cubes actually eat, like poo, straw or compost (or a mixture of). those other suggestions with the wood-based things work great for wood loving mushrooms, which cubensis is not. 3. when colonized take out of the bag, spread in a tray, and cover with an appropriate casing layer. again... need to get some more research under your belt - not difficult but no point in explaining the exact hows when its been explained a thousand times over already.

Ok great yes sorry if i'm asking things that have already been asked, i'm looking through the FAQs constantly but sometimes it's difficult to apply it to my own situation.
ok well i've found shroom wizards s grow guide here: http://www.shroomery.org/index.php/par/7924 which looks fantastic. Am i right in assuming that i don't need to worry about the questionability of it's sterility since i'm completely foregoing the inoculation section.
One thing though, these particular spores apparently like enriched soils, so i just go buy some of this from the garden centre then i guess, anything particular to look for?
And one more thing, does my 'yeild' depend on the amount of spores i used, or the nutrition they can recieve, or a mix of both, i mean will a larger area for the mushrooms to grow necessarily result in a larger yeild? Sorry i am using the FAQs but i guess i'm bad at the searching bit.
Thanks again for the help Joe

Alright, i have never done a casing with potting soil, it sounds dirty to me...I would suggest doin a verm/peat or verm/coir depending on what is available to you.More spores in the solution = more germination spots= faster colonization....I guess the grow bag has adequite nutricion for your shrooms... More water= hella bigger.... nutes= decides if there is the good stuff in it. Kind of why we use brown rice(its full of nutes) vs white rice(just some rice with shit in it). A mush will grow on both, but the white rice= almost no potency. Also, the thicker the substrate layer in your casing, the better, surface area doesn't mean shit if the substrate is like 1/2 an inch. Stick to the guides about how deep the substrate should be vs the casing layer...Cuz i don't know what it'll be if you end up usin the potting soil one......

Well ok then, how about once my bag is colonised (a few weeks from now anyway right)i buy myself some brown rice, pastuerise the shit out of it in the microwave, then get my propagator:
1 inch layer of soaked and drained perlite (soaked in boiled and cooled water) layer of the colonised substrate and topped with a 1-2 inch layer of the brown rice
Sounding good yet?
How far can i reasonably expect to spread out my substrate? My propagator is about 1.5' by 2', so i guess that will be too thin to spread out 1kg of substrate, can i sort of 'cordon off' say half of the prop, maybe fill the rest with moistened perlite?
By the way, i've got some expensive organic nutes around from another recent project, it's called biobizz, they're in two bottles - flower and veg, could it hurt to throw in a very small amount of each of these or am i getting over excited and ahead of myself?
Thanks
