so whats a good excuss for buying a 100lb bag of rye, wheat, or oat grain?
just want to walk in or talk like i know wtf im doing...so they don't hound me.
i hear i need to buy the feed and not the seed i assume this currect. i also might be able to get organic.
just need a reason to buy any of these grains...as they might not have them all...so i need to have an excuss for each one or all of them in general.
thx.

for beer don't you have to malt the barly? which it won't come like that organic.
anyways someone in town said they had OG barly 100lbs for like $20. problem i heard is that it has to much sugar in it...unless you use them for beer first. after that process then they become usuable ...so i hear anyways. if it wasn't for these things i would just get the barely.

Most feed & seed stores DON'T ASK.
Just ask for 50 lb bag of winter rye seed.
Price will range from $9 to about $16, depending on where you live.

Brainiacs link you can get 25lbs for around 30 bucks with shipping, not to bad if you are so nevous about it. You can also look in a all natureal food store, its where i get mine at. I pay about $1.15 a pound but I think I will use that link for now on

I usually by from a co-op store. Unless, I'm looking a grain that I can't find in the stores around here.If you have an Earth Fair/Whole Foods store they have all kinds of grains.

I get nothing but positive results when i mention i cultivate mushrooms...
No ones needs to know what type mushrooms your growing tho
people find it fascinating, and you dont look like your hiding something...
I actually got an offer to buy my mushies ( gourmets of course) from a health food store i would buy my grains and flours in....

You want a large health food store, and you want to ask for "organic rye berries". Don't use feed grains, because most have fungicides on them. I pay $8.75 for a 25 pound bag. If your store doesn't have it in stock, they can order it for you. Tell them it's for growing shiitake mushrooms on. If they ask many questions, next time you go in to pick up your grains, stop at the grocery store and pick up some nice looking shiitake's and take them to them from your 'latest crop'. RR

I wouldn't stress too much about someone asking you what you're using rye for. It's not one of those items people usually associate with drugs. The people I supply mushrooms to always ask where my "secret cow field" is. Most people I talk to, whether they eat cubes or not, have no idea that they could grow their own at home, much less use rye to do it. The only time I was asked, I told the guy my wife makes breads and stuff out of it and sells it for a charity.
It doesn't really matter what you come up with. I doubt anyone would think twice about your intentions.

Seriously man these ppl run a store. Thats their livelihood, and as such they want to make money just as much as any other person. Maybe if you were going into a pharmacy and buying like 100 syringes/needles I could imagine getting some strange looks and questions asked. For real though, who worries about what to tell the feed store clerk. Chances are they wont even ask anything and if they do just say I need to feed some livestock, or make some rye bread or smth. Lets be honest there's some pretty crazy ppl in this world and they've bought stranger things than some grains...

Best thing to do is write what you need on a small piece of paper. Walk up to the counter with paper in hand and say "I need this" If they ask what it's for (which they probably won't) say ... "I don;t know... I just pick up and deliver!" Works for lots of items
