microwave versus steamer versus pressure cokker
    #5674186 - 05/25/06 06:46 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

Hi There,
I realize this question has been asked a million times, in a million differing forms, but here i go anyhow, would it be possible, plausible, to, once rye berries have been soaked and strained to remove any endospores, then place the expanded grain into a microwave rice steamer for sterilization? I know pressure cooking is the one true, guaranteed method, but until my finances improve, does anyone know of this method's degree of success/failure--I would really appreciate 'any' input on this, and even any 'time in the microwave, amount of water added etc,  also, with the terrarium method, is it better to place damp perlite on the bottom, using the tub in tub method, or simply to hand spray, and if i do place moistened perlite down, and keep the temp just right, is it OK to drill permanent holes for aeration, or will this destroy the humidity, even with the temp adjusted to compensate, or, once more, should i simply place an air pump in the chamber to exhaust the stale air, and have a pump outside, with the hose running in, to replace that air? I know I've asked numerous questions here, but i could really do with some knowledgeable answers form some of you Shroom Pro's out there.
Thanks to everyone for maintaining such a brilliant meeting of the minds, :mushroom2: :mushroom2: :mushroom2: :mushroom2: :mushroom2:

Quite honestly, I say save your money and get a cheap pressure cooker. I cheap one from Wal-Mart will do five pint jars or 4 quart jars at once. It's a good starting place.

Perlite is easier.

Just put two medium holes in the side of your fruiting chamber and stuff them with polyfill.
