Well first of all No verm on the bottom..... 2nd of all nothing from lows. You will need prim 6+ month weathered poo. U should buy some from tenn stud. A shroomery vendor. The poo has to be pasturised. (well not have to but you shoul.) And a caseing layer of like Jiffy mix is what I use and you get this.

O and your set up looks very very small and not thick. I can see far to many mistakes.
you need something like.... this big or bigger.

To achive this...

yeah.
cow poo is not very good. mushroom compost is even worse. you see pictures of h/poo mushies.
that tin should be stuffed full of tenn. stud, not just 1/4 of whatever.
follow someone's tek and you will see their results. do it your own way and you will get your own results.
If you want someone's results, follow their tek to the letter.

dry h/poo.
pasteurize as needed. you can buy pre-pasteurized, but it is far more expensive.

First I would scrape the 'mushroom compost', it's probably spent and crap.
I do use a bottom layer of vermuculite
Second that case looks rough, not even and smooth, like this,

An uneven case does not help in a even pinsent. (but there are more reasons then just that)
And a smooth case has hills and valleys as such, remember the casing layer is made for a micro climate , not chunks.
Having large pieces of substrate hinders the pinsent.
The cases that looks good is will be like the one that I showed.
Even is one of the keys to a great pinset. Just look at the cases that have good pinset, there even, smooth.
Getting the most out of your casings!, A pinning strategy.

Beauteful pics Snaggletooth just wondering myself, what is a good ratio for colonised PF substrate:poo. All i have read is filling up a tray of poo to a certain height but doesnt really specify a ratio to use. Teks for hpoo are top notch though

I use a 3:1 ratio for cakes
you can use up to a 5:1 ratio and be okay.

all of tenn studs stuff works well and is easy to work with. anything pre-pasteurized is light switch easy. open the bag, mix, and incubate.
every casing is different is size. a pre-pasteurized 10 pound bag is an almost full fp bag.
about 8x5x15 inches.

To figure out the amount of Hpoo or (bulk substrate);
measure out the case or use an arbitrary size,
Measure the Length, Width and Height,(the max depth of the casing should not be more then 4-5 inches)
So then you LxWxH= equals the volume in inches.
Then you convert that number in to cups or whatever is easy to work with.
