Anyone a stay-at-home dad?
    #5672500 - 05/25/06 11:41 AM (17 years, 8 months ago)

I've been working graveyard for the past year and watch my toddler daughter 3X a week to save on childcare. I guess I'm not a "pure" stay-at-home dad but I guess I'd say I am for those three days except I work all night and try to stay awake for a majority of the day on those days. I get at most 3 hrs of sleep for those three days. Anyone else in my situation or a regular stay-at-home dad? What do you do with your kids? Do you enjoy it? Why or why not?

Azen

I am. It's great. I'm not looking forward to getting a job though, whenever that will be. The problem is finding a job that pays enough to significantly out-balance any daycare costs, depending on the scheduling.

Yeah, and my kids are in school (one in high school and two in middle). I have an office downtown but work at home almost every day. It's fuckin' awesome.

I'm not a stay at home dad, nor will I ever be since I don't want children. However, when my fiance finishes law school, she said she'd be totally cool with me lazing around the house.

I am retired from the restaurant industry. I have 4 large dogs, 3 cats, and fish.
Although they are not children, my animals require constant care and love. There are spoiled beyond belief, recieve only the best food, lots of snacks and exercise. At least we don't have to pay for college!!
I love staying at home with my animals. They are so much better to hang with than people!! And muych better to party with!! My Pit goes out of his way to be " conveniently accessable " when the bowl gets lit.
Only problem is, he hasn't brought any to the table. At least he wags his tail and smiles as he's freeloading!!
Peace

yeah man. Don't believe her. She'll get tired of you being a bum eventually. Women say shit to please you but they resent a man who doesn't work. Maybe not all, but I think that's pretty much the majority. Even professional women want to be taken care of. It's a natural instinct. Don't let your ego convince you that your woman is different or that somehow you're so special that she would do anything for you, including sacraficing her own needs. If we don't get what we need, we go elsewhere to get what we need. If we don't give women the care they need, they'll get it where they can find it. JMHO.

My GF, now my wife, Told me to quit my shitty job and just retire!!
I do all the laundry and 80% of housework. When she comes home from work, she gets a kiss and a hug! She is a R.N. at the local hospital, and makes Fuckin' good $$$. She NEVER resents me for staying home. It is one of her greatest gifts to me.
My house is paid for, my rental unit pays for itself.
Some people might think I'm a kept man. Ya know what? I am!! And kept VERY well, thank you!!
Peace

Granted I would do laundry and dishes and what not. I just won't have to work all day. My fiance loves working. She's a workaholic. She has to be the best at anything she does. Out here she will more than likely start at 200+k a year.

Good for you, Sabbathrulz,
Sounds like you guys have a plan. Open communication and respect is the key. And the more you have, the more to lose.
Keep in mind that once she has her degree, and has entered the workplace( $$), the rulz change.
I was thinking of starting a few questionable things, and was politly reminded that instead of just getting busted ( NO!!), my wife would most likely lose her R.N. license as well. And there goes the $$!!
So keep that in mind, my friend.
Peace and have a Grateful Day!

Well, the only remotely shady thing I would ever possibly consider is smoking pot. And out here, that is a decriminalized offense, but seeing how I suffer from chronic pain, I can get it legally. I might open a store, but who knows. I do plan to invest our money though, which will somewhat be like work. I have made several grand in a matter of minutes before by investing. I will have a great day, seeing I am not at work (they gave me the day off to get my California license)

yeah, starting salaries are pretty good out in cal, but the price of living there is outrageous IMO. I live in Louisiana and am a lawyer (for 8 years now). My firm busted up at the end of 2005 and now I'm working on my own making more than I ever did before thankfully and loving the freedom.

Something to keep in mind is that the more education a woman has, the more independent she is, and the more money she makes, the more she expects out of the man in her life in terms of looks, health, stamina, etc. She may not care as much about his making money, but she will want a man who can present himself to her associates without embarrasment. I'm sure that's you! Later.

Well, I do have a college education. I currently make 6 figures a year. I am well groomed, well built, and I'm 6'6 (I know a lot of people claim this, but they are full of it IMO, as I have seen more people claim this on this site, than anywhere else). I am putting her through law school, paying off her student loans. I think you must either have ended up with shitty women, or just have a negative view of them. I don't mean that as an insult btw.

I've noticed that too, but is it really the kind of thing people would bother lying about?

You wouldn't think so, however I never, and I mean never run into people my height out in public. I would say 2-3 times a year I see someone taller than me, out of how many ten's of thousands of people I see. I think people may be 6'3, and exaggerate their height. What's odd though, is the people I do know who are as tall as me, all have native american blood in them (me included, albeit only a little)

Damn that reminds me of me, but that was many moons ago.

I loved it. The best part was taking my daughter to the park or just going for a walk. I allways felt a bit guilty for some strange reason about being home during the daytime even though I worked at night.
