Not sure if it has to do with cult. specifically...
However, It's been awhile since i've had a scope of my own and I'd like to see some spores up close
Could anyone out there give some advice on what to look for in particular?
Anything over 600$ is a bit much, but anything under
TIA

I too would like to know that,
As far as I got researching it was that I wanted a triscope ( a third eye piece), cause then you can attach a camera and take pics.
I think that in it's self makes it way more usable.
Other then that I dont know of a kind (name brand) that I should look into.

Do a search for used medical supply stores or auctions. You can also come up with a nice used magnetic stirer from some of these places

I suggest a Russian microscope.
Don't know much about them, but I have done some research.
I've found that the best quality microscopes for the money are coming out of Russia these days.
When you do find a good one for a good price, please share your information.

I have 7 microscopes ranging from $175 to well over $5,000 each, but truth be known, the one I use the most in mycology is the $175 one. It's a cheapie stereo zoom microscope It's the type that has the light and the objective on the same side. It's for veiwing the tops of petri dishes or looking at sporeprints. A compound microscope is what you need for observing mycelium as it grows, and for looking for clamp connections. A compound microscope has the light and the objective on opposite sides of the object you're viewing. The light shines through the target and you see a transparancy of of your mycelium or spores. Do a few searches using 'stereo zoom microsope' and 'compound microscope' and look for something in your price range. The first picture below is of mycelium excreting metabolytes, taken with the $175 zoom microscope using a mini-div camera inserted in place of one of the eye tubes. The second picture is of a single spore. You can clearly see the internal components of the cell. That picture was taken with a much more expensive medical grade trinocular compound microscope at 1000X with a 2 megapixel CCTV camera attached to the camera tube. They're two totally different microscopes used for two different purposes. RR

I know that post is old as shit but Ive got a decent microscope and want to learn about what my fungus is doing up close and personal. I dont find much info on what Im supposed to see or about what contams look like/do. If you have any good resources Id greatly appreciate it. I think it would be cool if somehow by paying attention under my microscope I could make my mushies better than what I have now... Anyhow thanks your time-
