White mold/contamination or perfectly normal? PIC

yo.

growing some classic pf cakes using a perlite+aqaurium setup for the terrarium. when i first opened the jars for birthing, there were white (possibly light grey, which worried me) wispy-like structures pertruding through the vermiculite layer.

since all the jars had this and they didn't have any other odd colors or odors, i decided to birth them all. it's been a couple days and there are some marshmellow like structures at the base of a lot of the pins and shrooms. i wanted to post a pic and be sure that they are safe as i usually don't see this stuff growing around the base.

can someone please identify these white patches as normal growth structures or contamination?

That's where mushrooms come from. It also looks like you let invitro pinning ocurr. Keep going and give it time, you'll see what i mean.

yah, i did let invitro pinning occur. didn't have the terrarium setup in time... :smile:

looks like the first flush is done now.

Its fairly common for the bases of the shrooms to have fuzzy white mycelium on them. I don't remember the cause... too much or too little humidity or something like that. If the fuzz isn't white, but grey, you probably have cob web (though usually I see it in the casing first rather than the fruitbodies).
