first timer question

im thinking about buying the small inoculation jars from mushbox.com and using cakes for my first growing experiment. for those of you who have used these jars how much am i looking to yield off from each jar? (in grams). Also i dont plan on buying the entire kit , just the jars and some spores. After the mycellium shows up how should i fruit the jars? After i dunk them can they just be left on a plate somewhere or something? or should they be kept in some kind of humid environment? Sorry for the ignorance , im new to this.

You should make your own jars (look at the PF Tek and the MMGG). A cake will yield 2-4 grams per flush, maybe a little more. Cakes need 100% humidity, temps in the mid 70s, 12 hours of light a day, and lots of air exchange. You can fruit them in the jars, but set up a fruiting chamber of some sort--i.e., a rubbermaid storage container with moist perlite in the bottom. After each flush, dunk for 12-24 hours, roll and double-end case in vermiculite. You can get 4-6 flushes that way. Do a lot of reading here and at Mycotopia.net. GL.

Brainiac says alot with those comments, if you really want to get into this then read alot. I would start with the faqs section(thats where I started) and browse the forums and when you see something you not quite sure of look it up in the faqs section. As you can see I am fairly new as well and I will give you the same advice given to me by many others here patiences and research are very good things to learn. Asking questions is good also. You can build everything you can buy from the shops, most of the things are in the faqs section like how to build a fruiting chamber, I use the pmp(poor mans pod) and a TiT(tub in tub) incubator and spent maybe a third of what you might spend there that in cludes the jars and the mix including a pressure cooker. If you have money to spend and dont want to take the time to do it yourself then fine but you might miss out on some of the neat stuff that goes on with this growing.

sigh... you can't just forget the price of time and labour driving around locating all the parts and pieces required, then building the kit yourself , trouble shooting and trial and error.

go ahead and make your own MYG kit or mushroom kit there is instructions at www.mushbox.com/img/instruct www.magic-mushroom-kit.com/instruct for our kits.
Or come visit us and get it all in 1 guaranteed package.

I dont see any real problem with a sponser advertising in a related thread. That being said IMO if you have the money and want to save some time why not buy everything premade? Im not saying buying is better than making your own kit its just an alternative that suits the needs of a portion of those into the hobby. Not everyone has the time to be as intensive as those who make everything themselves.

LOL! I'm glad someone else notices this stuff too.

You don't have to do anything "intensive" to grow mushrooms. You can make PF jars with household items with the exception of vermiculite. For a fruiting chamber, all you need is perlite, geolite or lava rocks and any kind of enclosed container.
You can make a mono or double tub by doing the "intensive" task of drilling a couple holes in a rubbermaid container and get better results then just about any kit around for the same price it would cost just to get a kit shipped to you.
If you're a really lazy mofo and learning about the process really isn't your thing, then by all means, spend $150+ dollars for the convenience.
