***Update 11/27/11***
Thought I'd update my list before 2012 hits. _______________________________________________________
Newly updated for your viewing pleasure. Too many new artists to count! My Excel file is telling me it's now over 300 artists. And I know I'm missing some.
I decided to take out the compilations list as you can now easily go to www.discogs.com, type in one of the artists and find out what compilations their tracks are on.
***Please purchase all the albums you truly enjoy!***
Here is a list of websites you can purchase albums from:
And here are some community based forums and websites all about psychedelic ambient music:
As usual, I'll keep updating as I come across stuff.
Highlighted in red are artists you really shouldn't do without. Bolds are still highly recommended however. ______________________________________________________________

haha McKennaDMT you are awesome.
I visited the Shroomery for a particular reason this evening: to find good new artists I can search for on my new BitTorrent tracker...
thank you sir. I just don't know where to start!

Start with the bolded ones.
Especially, Banco de Gaia. Checkout his album Magical Sounds of Banco de Gaia. The first 5 tracks are some of the best songs ever made in my opinion.

What? No Astral Projection? It's all I have been listening to this week. If Infected Mushroom and Celtic Cross are on your list, than Astral Projection certainly should be. I'll upload a song with yousendit to share, for your consideration. Not sure how many downloads are allowed, so first come first serve, apparently. Of course, I'd be glad to send it to anyone through email who asks.
Astral Projection - Mahadeva

Also, how could one have Infected Mushroom on that list and not Hallucinogen?
Krumelur would fit in this list, I think. Very atmospheric and psychadelic, but more minimalistic.

Took out Infected Mushroom. I was going off of their track Dancing With Kadafi, which isn't really trance.
And Celtic Cross is nowhere near Astral Projection soundstyle wise.
AP is goa, Celtic Cross is definitely psy-ambient. Checking out Krumelur as I type this...
Thanks for the suggestions, keep em coming.

Yeah, I thought someone would say that.
Astral Projection is psychadelic and it is ambient. What distinguishes it as seperate from the rest of the musikk listed? The rhythm? Are we being too rigid in our attempts at classification?
I admit that I am not too deeply involved in this whole genre of musikk; and yet, listening to Astral Projection's Ambient Galaxy agansit Celtic Cross' Darshannon, I fail to recognize any huge distinction, in fact, Darshannon seems to be more rhythmically driven in a straight-forward manner than Ambient Galaxy. Vibrasphere's Time Shifter is full of pulsing, pushing rhythm as well. I feel it constantly in my stomach.
So, I'm obviously missing something... what's the difference?
Peace.

Huge mistake, by the way.
Not sure how you can deny the Infected Mushroom/Hallucinogen/Astral Projection type stuff, or to draw a line between Celtic Cross and Hallucinogen... or Hallucinogen and Shpongle.... Especially Infected Mushroom stuff, they are so incredibly diverse and not adherent to any specific form that all they could be considered to be is psychadelic and ambient....
So what exactly is the criteria?
Peace.

Astral Projection is goa with hints of ambient.
I knew this eventually would come up...and that's cool.
My criteria was slower beats, use of ethnic instruments, psychedelic synth sounds, which produce a relaxed psychedelic state.
The genious of these groups is that they can go from being complete ambient, no beats, just nice relaxing sounds to driving dance-floor orientated. I pictured a person or group of people sitting around a table, relaxing, having a good time etc. The music can either be ignored completely or if you choose to listen to it carefully, you'll be rewarded. While you will be rewarded by listening IM, AP and its kind (they're music is fuckin amazing by the way), I just didn't see them playing while in the above described setting...
I await more responses. I'm open for anything.

Decent enough explanation, except for one bit of faulty reasoning - one simply cannot ignore Shpongle.
Have you given Biosphere a listen? Very subtle atmosphere type stuff. Also, what did you think of Krumelur?
Biosphere - Antennaria
I'd suggest Delerium and then more Delerium, but you already have that covered (but not in bold! ). Ott is also very fucking cool.
As I said earlier, I only know what I've been given to know, and I'm more from a metal background, so I will be diving into your list like fucking crazy to explore this out to its fullest.
Let's see... not sure if Ozric Tentacles is what you are aiming for or not with this list. I'm not too familiar with them, just going through some of my files to see if I have anything to contribute, and they seem really out there, but perhaps too intense for what you are looking for? What I'm listening to now is off of "Waterfall Cities" or something.
Oryx? Too rhythmic? I dunno, you tell me, I'm just throwing out what I know to see.
You son of a bitch! I found "Ethneogenic", and I'm like, fuck yeah, this is exactly what he is looking for, and you've got it in bold already.
Ticon, but it seems to have too much pounding rhythm...
Guess that is all I've got for suggestions.
Peace.

Good reply.
Biosphere added.
I KNOW I'm missing a lot here. I think there might need to be a more uptempo list made. And then a psychedelic space rock list as well, which is probably Ozrics would be labeled under. I'm down to start these lists, but they won't be as comprehensive as this one, so I'll need even more help on them. If anyone is an "expert" in trance and all it's sub-genres, drop me a PM and we'll get one started. Same with the spacerock one.
Waterfall Cities is Ozrics best work, by the way. If you enjoy Ozrics, checkout the band Kaabel. Some beautiful psychedelic spacerock. Kaabel.com You can download about 8 albums worth for free off their site. My avatar is actually the cover to their new release.

right on, finally tapping into this list.
maybe one of you can help me. I think Biosphere's Kobresia is one of the best ambient albums I've ever heard. Can you recommend an organic, ambient album similar to that? I must note that I'm not a big fan of the HIA/Biosphere stuff, the more metallic kind of ambient.
i want grand, watch the clouds roll by kind of music...
