Early spring through to september. But the best time is the rainy spring.
Habitat is usually on wood chips or dead/decaying logs/wood.
On East coast, mainly in WVA and VA, also OH.

I have officially found some in Pennsylvania, I found an older batch and ID'ed them as caerulipes. They were on a huge woodchip/grass pile under some japanese weeds. they weeds gave them very good shade in order to live. It has been about 5 days since a rain here and they were mostly shriveled, but a few were still alive. i cant wait till the next rain!

They can also be found in the wee hours of pre dawn in fields in Kentucky. Im going to prove this soon. I have an old timer (my father), that hunted them before when he was younger. He tells me that they disappear when the sun comes up, I dont know.

Agreed, P. caerulipes is a sturdy mushroom that will last for a week or more.
