GROUP: New Video Exposes Behind-the-Scenes Story of Gore’s Own Energy Use Wed May 24 2006 17:59:00 ET
As former Vice President Al Gore’s documentary on global warming fears debuts today, a new video from the Competitive Enterprise Institute tracks Gore’s own “carbon footprint.” CEI’s 70-second video points out that Gore himself is a big user of the hydrocarbon fuels that produce carbon dioxide when combusted.
Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth” asks, "Are you willing to change the way you live?" The Gore documentary and new book of the same name go on to suggest ways that people can reduce their carbon footprint, yet Mr. Gore has clearly not taken his own message to heart. He even says in the documentary that he has given his global warming Power Point slide show more than 1,000 times all around the world.
The CEI video, which may be viewed at: http://streams.cei.org/, includes footage of Gore and his constant air travel with two CO2 meters running at the bottom of the page that compare Gore’s carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions with those of an average person.
"All the evidence suggests that Mr. Gore is an elitist who passionately believes that the people of the world must drastically reduce their energy use but that it doesn't apply to him,” said Myron Ebell, CEI's director of energy and global warming policy and the creator of the video.

That would be hypocrisy, not doublespeak.

It could be both.....here is what descibes double speak.
http://www.damronplanet.com/doublespeak/whatisdoublespeak.htm
We hear and read doublespeak every day, but what, exactly, is doublespeak? Webster's dictionary defines doublespeak with these words: evasive, ambiguous, high-flown language intended to deceive or confuse.
In his bestselling book Doublespeak, William Lutz notes that doublespeak is not an accident or a "slip of the tongue." Instead, it is a deliberate, calculated misuse of language.
Specific Attributes of Doublespeak Lutz provides several defining attributes of doublespeak:
misleads distorts reality pretends to communicate makes the bad seem good avoids or shifts responsibility makes the negative appear positive creates a false verbal map of the world limits, conceals, corrupts, and prevents thought makes the unpleasant appear attractive or tolerable creates incongruity between reality and what is said or not said
-------------------- “I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”

The fact that Al Gore does not follow his own message makes him a hypocrite. But that does not mean that he is speaking doublespeak. I see nothing in the article to indicate that he is being misleading in his message. It only indicates that he is being inconsistent in following it.

Since we are going back... during the Clinton/Bush campaign back in the 90's, I noticed Clinton at an environmental event with a styrofoam coffee cup in his hand before the speech he gave. It was oddly ammusing listening to the shmuck (not 'cause he is left, but because he is a professional politician) rant on about how we have to do more to save the environment while blantently ignoring everything he was saying, as he was saying it.

From the article:
***misleads distorts reality pretends to communicate makes the bad seem good avoids or shifts responsibility *******
***please note that definition
You don't think his stats are biased? If he believed so much this doomsday situation, why fly so much?
******Please note that specific definition.
Gore advocating everyone ELSE to stop the pollution, while arriving and leaving numerous times on a jet, in my opinion is doublespeak. He is shifting the responsibility, that he himself could also partake in. Not only is he a hypocrite, but he is also divulging facts and coming up with environmental action plans, that he himself will not follow due to attention this supposed political platform gives him.
Another thing, what politician does not doublespeak?

Well, flying is the fastest way to get around.

I think technically, he's saying that everyone stop pollution. So he's not shifting responsibility. He's just being inconsistent.

Where did I say he doesn't? All I'm saying is that this situation doesn't qualify.

well if he didn't do any air traveling we prob would have never seen the videos. The gov. doesn't care about globel warming and they won't help to spread the word about saving the enviroment. The only way is to go out and speak...which gore has done somewhat.
you compair any polotitions usage with average person it will be higher...they travel more.

He may be hypocritical in the eyes of many for this, but how many of us have never given advice to a friend, that we might not actually follow ourselves? I don't think that the fact that he doesn't always have the discipline to follow this message needs to take away from the message itself. I think it's a great thing he's doing to try to save this planet for future generations of humans. This is more than most of us can claim to be doing to help.

i doubt the pollution problem is from typical people, and their use of gasoline.
the reason it has gotten so bad are relaxed laws on emissions for cars, and industrial applications. If the codes were harder on business, then everything else would follow suit.
