Well My B+ jars took over 3-4 weeks to colonise my rye. Wich is just a small quart jar size. But I spawn to poo and in 24 hours the rye that just had only a little bit of white on it once it was broken up and put in the poo the barely colonised peaces on top explode and in 24 each peace that had spek of white on it is a big ball of white now. It can only be the fresh air that It got in the spawn. What do you think. Tyvek doesnt let enough fresh air in?

Tyvek allows plenty of gas exchange. Something else is/was wrong. RR

I am prety sure my water content was perfect. I did what RR told me to do. Soak 24 hours and simmer for 5 minutes then strain and flop around bot the water was not evaporating fast enough So I moved it around on a towel to get the excess moisture off jared pced.

FYI Tyvek allows no FAE guys only gas exchange, also while colonizing always crack the jars lid loose it really helps trust me!

water has little affect on tyvek, punching the holes may have been a bad idea

Ive never used it, just polyfil. I use 2 types of jars, depending on the grain...

Tyvek doesn't breathe as well as cotton or polyfil. If the only opening is tightly covered with tyvek, then the FAE is going to be small. If the entire top of the jar is covered in tyvek, and the opening in the metal/plastic lid is 1/4" or greater, then the air exchange will be fine, since the small hole is breathing through a large surface area of tyvek, assuming they aren't tightly taped together.
Tyvek doesn't want to stay wet, because contams can wick their way through it. But, an occasional wetting shouldn't be a problem. Tyvek isn't the ultimate filter, it's just an effective and cheap filter, if given enough surface area. It will block contams if kept dry, and it will breathe fine if given enough surface area.

or your jars are dry. You can tell if their dry by shaking the jars. If the grain pings off the glass then they are dry. Ive had some trouble with dry jars with some of those jar teks before.

One thing really caught my attention here mugor was the use of the word cotton this is a nono here! Except for womens panties of course.

I only mention cotton cuz I'm a panty sniffer. Or, maybe cuz scientists use it. You choose.
J/k, I choose to use tyvek, and sniff polyfill. Cotton isn't highly regarded on mushroom forums, because it does wick contams when shaken. Most lab work doesn't include shaking. That makes cotton a viable alternative, only for culture work. Sorry, will refrain myself. Floggings on on Friday. Will try to attend. Thanks, Hyphea, it's not a good idea to use cotton in this context.

Your definitely a panty sniffer bro! LOL (me too). Scientists use it for it's absorbent quality.

Recently I made some rye grain jars with tyvek and when I shook them right out of the PC I could feel quite a bit of steam coming out of the quarter inch hole under the tyvek. I think this left my jars much to dry. Has anyone else had this problem?

prep the jar
Cover with tyvek
Shoot em up and cover the hole
9 days later from multi spore if a jar takes longer then two weeks it gets chucked.
To put this simply nobody here had had slow colonization cause of the tyvek the problem is someplace else.
