Reversing a lifetime, I know what you mean. I have always had a problem with motivation. It has caused a lot of anxiety for me. It's a battle between what I feel like doing and what I "should" be doing.

I have learned that we are what we do, and the more we do something, the more we'll do it. Does that make sense? Like cleaning for example, I hate that shit. I hate doing laundry, doing the dishes, etc, but it needs to get done at some point. So I used to wait around until there are no dishes left, or until there is not a single clean item of clothing. But I have started to turn this around by forming habits. I still hate doing those things but the more I do them the easier they become. The first time is the hardest, then easier, then easier, then easier. It's slow and painful but I think it's the only way. After a while those things are no big deal, cause it's integrated into my lifestyle. So for self-expression around others, just take a leap, it will be scary, maybe embarrassing, expect it. Then maybe a few weeks after taking leaps of uncertainty it will be more natural, then in a year it will be easy, then in 5 it will be second nature. You need to reprogram your brain, and there is no easy solution, it takes struggle and pain. My 2 cents...
