Fly Agaric (amanita muscaria) mushrooms can easily be mistaken when picked in the wild. he may have eaten a very poisonous shroom which resulted in his current state. however, if you just grow your own mushies (p. cubensis), you'll have a blast with no adverse effects physically.

well, some people may not be ready for such an intense experience. if you think you can handle it, just start out with a low dose of 1.5-2.5 grams and i'm sure you'll have a great time! as long as you are level-headed and don't have any serious psychological problems, mushrooms are great.

Any kind of strong psychadelic such as psilocybin or LSD can trigger a skitzophrenic episode within someone, if you're really worried about it you should just find out about your family background. If no one in your family's past has had any cases of skitzophrenia than you'll be fine. Plus it's known to be more of an LSD thing rather than mushrooms. Sucks about your friend though...sounds a lot like a psychadelic induced case of skitzophrenia to me, I wouldn't worry about it if I were you though.

I had a friend once that "went nuts" after binging on DXM for several months, so I know first hand that it can happen. Mental problems ran in his family. My guess is that when people "go nuts" from drug use, they already had problems and the drug was the final straw so to speak. I haven't heard of any stories where a sane person "went nuts" after doing shrooms that didn't have some kind of predisposition for going nuts. If you are "a bit hesitant to touch them now" and you decide to eat some, you could be in for a rough trip caused by your lingering uncertainty. If you decide to eat some, start out with low doses in a good setting.

I just posted a synopsis of a thesis regarding the similarities between DMT/psilocybin experiences as the delusions associated with paranoid schizophrenia in general questions under 'level 5 trip'. Most sufferers of Post Hallucinatery Perception Disorder show no prior history of mental illness. This disorder is overdiagnosed - i had a friend who got a vial of acid and was tripping constantly until he inevitably lost it. He experienced re-occuring visual experiences for about 6 monthes after his last/worst trip that eventually went away. He was diagnosed with PHPD but I think he just lost the plot for a while.

HPPD by diagnosis criteria, has nothing to do with mental disturbances but is solely visual distortions. It doesn't sound disabling in anyway to me,I'd probably enjoy having it.I've had recurring visual phenomenon if I tried for a few months after a trip.I could make my ceilings breathe if I looked at them the right way. What I hate are unexpected visual hallucinations of OEV nature when no chemical responsible for this has been taken in months,I've only had this happen to me a few times and it was quite unsettling.
