Flunked out of college today/maybe

my mom thinks i flunked out because financial aid is offering us nothing because of my grades. fuck her and fuck that place cause i tried my best dammit. i hope i get to go back somehow, even if i have to live at home, because im fucking clueless on what to do with my life right now.

if i don't get to go back, i am completing moving away and starting over with my best friend. fuck it god im just a fuck up

i only have myself to blame.

I don't know anything about your personal life, but from experience - stay away from drugs and it's easier to do well in school.

yeah i smoked a lot of pot my only year of college and made a hand ful of really good friends. my grades took a back seat to partying, and wanting that full college experience. but o well, college is highly overrated.

I went to college for graphic design. I didn't go because I loved it, I went because I was good at it. Needless to say I didn't do to well the first year... I failed out. Parents don't know. I fucking hated it.

Gotta follow your heart, your passion. You gotta become one of those people that say "It doesn't feel like work because I fucking enjoy it so much. I'm happy."

What they're talking about it up to you.

i hated college. hated it. i didn't flunk out though but i did quit. my school was crap though on only cared about sports and research. most of my professors sucked. etc. now i have a huge debt from student loans... i regret going in many ways but i gained some good friends from the whole ordeal.

hah but it doesn't bother me, it's a thing of the past. I've moved on.

Yeah schooling today is such bullshit. I know it's essential to know a certain amount of modern day knowledge

but for example. Here in Ontario, you're required to take math for 3 years in highscool. REQUIRED! so you take em, they teach you some crazy shit.

Do you think I've used that crazy shit ONCE since I've graduated? no. All it did was bring my mark down because I didn't do well in math.


but anyways, onto college. My prof's sucked ass too in Graphic Design.

I had to hand-draw the Times New Roman alphabet as perfect as I could.

I spent like 25+ hours doing that shit and all I got was a C. I was tempted to ask my prof in the middle of class what in the fuck we learned from this stupid ass assignment. There were alot of those. The profs were in denial that computers were replacing pencils and pens. So they made us do extra pencil shit

somehow these two statements dont jive..

you dont go to college for parties etc. you go for an education. If you have spare time when your not, say, passing classes, thats when you party.

but eh, to each their own and best of luck in your future endeavours

how ironic i just got reaccepted into my university today... all you need to do is go to a community college (fucking easiest thing ever) and get a 2.5 for 12 credits... atleast thats all i had to do...

I dont know but i am really frusatrated at the moment because my whole world is falling apart. It may not seem like a big deal but it is too mean. Yes, I agree those two statements dont match up. I studied very hard for some tests and some how still failed them, true I went to college to get a degree, and I was in the wrong for all the partying I did. I am very upset and not proud of myself at the moment.

Everyone my age in my family has their shit together, and I feel I will be the black sheep in a few months. I used to say live with no regrets, but I regret this very much. I know I shouldnt worry about what others think (even family) but its hard not to.

I really could use some good advice, and I hate to moan like a baby but it may come out like that.

If it makes you feel better i passed up a job last summer to finish my final year of college. My friend took the job instead. Hes making 800 dollars a week, and im struggling to find a job where i can make 10 dollars an hour.

College is great, but its not the only way.

Yeah perhaps if you can (don't know what you were doing previously) you could go to a community college and get your associates and then transfer to a university... Maybe after then you'll have some better idea what you want to do.

The downside is it will be incredibly boring, you'll have to put at least a little effort in, and it might be a good idea to stop partying.

If there is something that you are really into: like an art/hobby/etc, persue that instead of school.

Or you could work some shitty jobs for a while just to save up enough money to buy some land, and then just live off of it as best you can.  Might be rewarding.  :smile:

No matter which way you go, you will have to put in effort, just do what makes you happy.

You do not give me the impression of a fuck-up. And I know some fuck-ups.

I flunked out of college my first semester. I just stopped going, I hated the school so much. This particular school was located in my home town, several members of my (God bless them) retarded family went there, and they railroaded me into going there as well. I wanted to go to U of Texas in Austin, or at least try to get in, but my parents insisted I go to this assfuck college in my hometown. After I flunked out, I was in a similar position as yours.

You say your mom thinks you flunked out. Well, have you even checked your grades? You need to correspond personally with the administration; that is, if you flunk out, you should at least know before your mom does. See if they will offer you conditional readmission. I'm betting, if you talk to them personally and express the same regret and determination as in your post, they probably will. You can get a (good) college to do just about anything; it's all about who you talk to and how you talk to them.

If you come away from this having learned something, then you are not a fuck-up.

Dude, sometimes the school you pick just isn't right.

I chose a small college of a major, well respected university in my area. I thought I would like the environment but it turned out to be two years of living hell. I hated the campus, I hated the people, I hated the location. I tried to make the best of it, but that wasn't enough.

I transfered schools after my GPA crashed and I'm doing EXCELLENT at my new school. Maybe you need to transfer. Sometimes a change is for the best  :smile:

What were your grades?

I'd try and get back at it - pretty much every friend of mine (including myself) really fucked up their first year of school. I find that especially if you went straight from highschool to college/univ, it seems to happen even more so.

I pretty much flunked out my 1st year, switched schools, switched majors, did so-so again at 1st year of my new univ, fucked up 2nd year, and now just finnaly got my head pulled out of my ass and back at it and did really really well this year.

Univ is a big adjustment -- if you can get back in next year and afford it, just give it your all.

I spent pretty much the 1st three years of Univ fucking it up. In highschool, I never had to try for anything - I could not study and pull off mid 80s, I could skip class all I wanted - and the teachers didnt care because I still managed to pull off the grades. I had no homework skills and no study skills. This year, I finnaly managed to pull it around and kick some ass.

For one year, I also put partying before school - and fuck, I found school to be like 10x harder as a result. This year, I put school before partying (I still partied, was just more selective about when and how hard) -- and it was SO much easier. Some advice --- (some may not fully apply depending on what your going to school for)

- cut back on drinking
- cut back on weed
- cut back on partying
- actually goto every class
- even if assigned questions are NOT being taken up/checked or for grades : do them anyways, and do them over, and over, and over
- for essays/projects: aim to get them done 3-4 days before they are actually due, then use that remaining 3-4 days for edits/fixing up and putting in that extra bit of polish, nothing 'new' should be going into whatever for the last few days, it should just be spit polish to take it from a B mark to an A mark
- For Midterms and Final Exams, start studying 2-3 weeks BEFORE the exam date. Even if you have other tests or assignments due before then, spend atleast an hour a night studying
- Do assigned readings BEFORE the class that the reading is due for. The lecture will often clarify what you have read and it will make more sense
- If you have a class where there are alot of math problems/etc - start writing down the steps you use to solve problems, use this to help you study
- Even if you are not allowed a cheat sheet for a test : make one anyways, its a good way of figuring out what you think you need to know for the test or not.

my 2nd year at Ryerson, I had a full course load + working 20-30 hours per week + doing E almost every weekend + dealing with a boyfriend = school never got the attention it needed. By the end of the school year I thought I was losing my mind from the stress, failed a course and ended up with a C- average.

This year, I did the above + didnt work this year, this year was a BREEZE. It was easy, I was far less stressed, my avg is now an A- avg, passed all my courses and in general feeling much better about school and 'not feeling like a fuckup'

Suck up the 'errors' of partying all 1st year, pull yourself around and kick ass next year. You dont need to quit partying and being social, just be more smart about it and balance/plan better.

ie: Are you going out partying on sat? Put a bit of extra effort into doing homework/reading/studying on Thursday and Friday so you dont need to worry about it monday.

If you do shit like XTC/etc -- save it for long weekends and reading week/etc.

If your planning on shrooms/LSD/whatever : get all of your homework done before hand.

Not a single 'party' stands out for me from my 2nd year of Univ, it all just blends into one mash becuse I was going out and partying so often. But this year, I was more selective in when/where I partied - and each one stands out because they kicked ass. When you are not doing it every weekend, the times that you do do it - seem 10x better and not so routine.

I appreciate that man.. I just finished my first year at college. Its fucking impossible to balance an active social life (of the shroomery variety) and college. The 2 don't go.

Biggest mistake is being stoned in lessons. I realised this too late on in the year though.

Going to class stoned is a waste of weed, and a waste of class. There has been once or twice I went to class high - but found it was just a big waste all around.

You dont get what you should get from the class, and you cant enjoy your high as much because your 'aww fuck, I'm in class'. I'd rather be outside with my walkman listening to tunes :smile:

It's not so much giving up your social life - its just finding that balance, and preparing for it. You will need to sacrifice it a bit, but in the end : College/Univ is costing you (or your parents) an arm and a leg, you might as well try and get the best out of it.

Some other things I did this year which helped allot. But, I guess this will depend on how your school handles things, but for me

- Once you have all of your course outlines that details : what chapters need to be read by when, what assignments are due, when tests are due : Enter ALL of that information into Outlook. I put EVERYTHING into the 'Tasks' in Outlook, and set reminders for a few days before it was due - this really helped me keep ontop of my reading and assignments.

I found that previously, I'd always have something seem to 'sneak up' on me. By doing this, I knew when everything was due for when and was able to plan properly.

- If you cant handle not smoking weed until weekends, save it until say : after 10pm and only after your reading/homework for the day is done.

- Plan your reading so it is a bit spread out. If its Monday, and you have a class on Friday that needs you to have read a chapter, spread it out so you read like, half a chapter Monday, half a chapter Tuesday type of thing. Some of my books were HORRIBLY boring to read and trying to read a chapter in 1 sitting was torture, but spread it out over a few days and it's not so bad.

- Make use of the time between classes to get reading/studying/homework done. There were many days where I'd have like, a 3 hour break in-between classes. Go to the library and do a major homework/study session during these breaks. If you can make good use of this time, your time at night is more readily available for social time

- If you are feeling overwhelmed, sit down and write out a list of whats due and when. Feeling overwhelmed would be a big trigger of anxiety attacks for me. But, by sitting down and writing them out - you realize just how manageable it is.

- While reading books - make notes. Either on post-it notes and stick them in pages, or type up notes while reading. This helps suck the info into your head a bit better, and is also a great reference when studying for exams. Instead of having to re-read each chapter, if you have two pages of really good notes = a big big help.

- If you have a lot of classes like English/etc, do yourself a favor : get a laptop, and type up your notes during class. For math courses, taking notes on a laptop is harder, but for history/English/etc = much much better. On average, I'd get about 4 pages of typed notes per 2 hour lecture in my English course, and being able to reference these while studying/writing essays = HUGE HUGE help.

You don’t need to give up your social life totally. I still did shrooms/LSD quite a bit during the school year, smoked pot almost daily, would party once or twice a month and maybe do XTC once every 2 or 3 months -- but now and then, it will need to go on the backburner to focus on school, but it doesn’t need to go up in smoke entirely.

Completing a 4-year degree requires a basic (albeit minimal) amount of intelligence.

Other than that, you need the motivation and discipline to get your work done. While college may not be for everyone these qualities are desirable in most lines of work.

If you can't lay off the bong and the parties enough to earn passing grades, what does that say about your work ethic and ability to succeed at any type of job?

i think i did the same thing this semester...

i dont think i can get financial aid anymore because my GPA just dropped below 2.0

FUCK!

im on like the 5.5 year plan for engineering because i had to retake so many classes, but next year is my 4th year. i cant quit, otherwise it's so much more of a waste.
Plus, when you start doing bad you begin to justify it in your mind; "oh, college is stupid, blah blah." Which makes it even harder to try. It's easier on the ego to not try at all than to try and still fail, which might happen if you try to dig yourself out of this hole.



EDIT:
the thing that motivated me was looking around and seeing so many like 24 year olds and older adults in my classes. Last semester, i was 20 y/o and felt ahead of the game, if im making any sense.
ya know? you still have all the time in teh world.
