simple substrate

This tek has probably been done before but I don't recall seeing it. It's kind of a slight modification of the 9er Tek. Using a rice cooker different batches of brown rice, rye and a combo of brown rice-birdseed were made. After the cooker did its thing, the different substrates were loosely packed in pint jars and sterilized (15 psi, 45 min.).

Mycelium syringes were used to innoculate Puerto Rican (on rye - lower left), Equadoran (rice-birdseed - lower right), and Pan. Cyanescens (rye - on top). This (poor quality) pic shows 5 days growth:

Is that paper towel in your lids acting as polyfill?

It's furnace filter material cut in strips, squeezed together and threaded through ~3/8" diameter hole . . . didn't have any polyfil. I also punched a small hole in lid for innoculation, covered it with electrical tape during autoclave. All substrates show active and uncontaminated growth. A pint of Puerto Rican on straight brown rice completely colonized in 14 days.
