I had a thought last night, which I will outline here.
If one's self, or personality is a sum of their memories (as it seems to me it is), then if one were to not have memories they would not have a foundation on which to define them selves as a seperate self.
Thus, if one were living fully in the now, without reference to past or future, one would be no one. One would just be what is then, there. Just a point of perspective in that moment, viewing it completely unbiasedly, without any sense of seperation as self.
This could prove to be an interesting experience, though I cannot even imagine.

Indeed! Erasing personal history is crucial!
Don't be a slave to the past; be a free, unbounded, genuine, and spontaneous being.

"Belief is a beautiful armor But makes for the heaviest sword" - John Mayer Making the noise "penicillin" is no substitute for actually taking penicillin. "This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it, or their revolutionary right to dismember or overthrow it." -Abraham Lincoln

Yes, castaneda certainly emphasized my thoughts on the fact that we have at every moment of our life infinite choices, and it is so strange that we let ourselves feel like we don't.
"I" am not an asshole, or a nice guy, or a funny guy, I am all those things and none, I can choose to be whatever I want, I don't have to be funny just because I was yesterday, I don't need to go to work and hang out with the same people just because I did yesterday, I just need to be whatever I feel like at the moment, and stop getting bound by these notions I have built around myself.

Try going a whole day without saying "I", "my" or "mine", even in your head. When you catch yourself saying one of those, observe why you felt the need to say it. It's a great exercise toward that purpose.

Yes, still an effect of the past...
OR, a responsibility to the reception of, the anticipation of, the future?
