LSA Extract Photo
    #5660707 - 05/22/06 03:31 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

I took roughly 300 Morning Glory seeds (heavenly blue) and powdered them with a coffee grinder, then shook them in a jar of Isopropyl Alcohol 99% for 2 hours. In thoery this "should" extract the good stuff, leaving the bad stuff behind in the seed powder. i then filtered through cotton and was left with a cloudy whitish yellowish liquid, i then evaporated the Alcohol on a glass pie dish, with a fan, in darkness. after leaving it overnight i scraped off the pie dish, which looked clear, and got this, it looks like its quite oily and impure. i have since then thrown it in the garbage. thanks for reading.

alcohol never just extracts the "good stuff", it extracts anything and everything that is soluble in that particular alcohol... and a LOT of things are soluble in alcohols.

from what i've read, the bad stuff is polar soluble, and good stuff, nonpolar soluble, and in using a nonpolar solvant, i only wanted to get the good stuff (of course along with a bunch of other crap, like you said) and leave the bad stuff behind. I guess i should have made it clear that i wasnt expecting a pure substance at all, just a dirty mess with good stuff somewhere in it, and the bad stuff still in the seed powder. i hope i don't have my polar and nonpolar knowledge all mixed up... :S

edit: i do have my polarities mixed up, the bad stuff is nonpolar soluble. my mistake. still, since iso is polar, everything should have worked out.

maybe wash that with a polar now? may not be worth it for that small amount though

why throw it out? even if it isn't pure u still could put it in gel caps and have a lot less shit to ingest vs all those seeds

Well with mescaline you use a non polar solvent first - this extrudes all the fatty lipids that are generally bad for you (sickening etc) and toss this liquid.
Then you extract with alcohol or ether(polar) - and evaporate.

As far as I know LSA is a "cloudy whitish yellowish liquid" when extracted  . I'd definately say it would be better than chompin down heaps of seeds.

i believe that you are supposed to do a non polar extract first when extracting LSA

^ you are correct, this was just an experiment, to see if i could skip the first step. becuase if your going to use an alcohol, that you can't drink in the second step, the first step doesnt make much sense to me, i could see that maybe washing all the bad stuff away, but they shouldnt wash out with alcohol (according to the extraction techs i've read) so whats the point.

If you could get a quick one step extraction that took a few hours (including dry times) and gave you a good yield with no puking, it would be perfect.

ill update you all on the outcome of the experiment.
