incubator/TiT question

did my tub in tub with a tank heater at the bottom. put a half pint mason jar at the bottom of each corner filled with water so they will sink, that way if my top tub gets 2 heavy it wont crush my tank heater which is stuck at the bottom of my tub. dumped the water in.
cant seem to get the temp over 80-81/82 i turn the heater up to 80 degrees and its the same, 85 the same. my house is fairly cool around 72-74 degrees. should i try turning the heater up even more? i cant get the temp in my top tub above 81 maybe 82.

if that is the highest you can go than that is not much of a problem.
Yes you can turn up the heater, the bigger it is (watts) the easier it works.
Be careful that the temp wont spike, you dont want it any higher then 86.

i wouldn't turn it up any more you're close to the sweet spot as it is, and once the thermal protection kicks off on one of those heaters sometimes they're a pain in the ass to get to turn back on. wrap it in some heavy blankets and it'll keep the heat in and you might squeeze those extra few degrees out

im thinking that the heater isnt working for shit cause the water still feels a little on the cool side but the heater is warm to the touch. its turning on for a bit then shuts itself off once it reaches that temp.
basicaly the inside of the incubator was 81 when i got home and my house is 75-76 degrees.... and i heard somewhere that the inside should always be 5degrees warmer without a heater.
any advice? do all these tank heaters have that auto shut off ? i might just wrap it in blankets. any advice would be appreciated and i thank everyone for their replies.

Two ideas.
First, don't worry about it. 82F is fine and remember, when myc starts growing you won't want it much higher because the myc itself generates heat. At WORST your myc will grow a teensy bit slower. It's the difference between a 3-pointer that went "swish" and a 3-pointer that hit the backboard. Sure, the first one is prettier but both are worth three points. Don't kill yourself over a 24-48 hour lag until you can harvest.
Second, what creamcorn said: throw a blanket over the TiT. That'll get you a bit of a temp increase.
