I'm inocing birdseed in pint jars with LC. Would 5cc a jar be a good amount, or would this be too much water?

totally depends on the moisture content of the jars.
I purposely make my jars dry or add extra verm so I can use more LC. Found some old sterilized grain jars yesterday and inoculated with 30cc LC.
5 should be fine. If you have verm in there, you can up it a bit.

It's just plain bird seed. Acually it's more on the wet side. I drained the bs for only about 5 mins before loading the jars.

I drain my wbs for about six hours.
in your case I would only use around 2cc max.
don't incubate very warm either. Being that wet and very warm will certainly invite some bacteria. Well in my house it does.

Cool. I'm incubating at 82-83. Guess I gotta be patient on the draining. I need a bigger strainer...

Maybe I should manually let some steam out after PCing (doing that now) to dry them up a bit. Waduya think?

I use 5 gallon buckets for soak and drain.
take the lid and cut out the center.
leave 1-2 inches at most besides the rim.
get a piece of house screen and cut it 4 inches bigger in diameter than the bucket.
fill bucket 2/3 full of wbs (20lbs). place screen over bucket. place lid on, holding the screen tight. make sure the lid is TIGHT. rinse wbs in bathtub till water runs clear. fill bucket with soak water (25% coffee, 2 tablespoons gypsum, 75% hot water) allow to soak for 24 hours. drain in tub and rinse again till water is clear. Invert bucket and allow to drain for six hours.
no strainer or anything besides the bucket needed. I can do 80lbs at a time in my tub. this set up will work for any amount, no need for so much.

I think letting steam out is a bad idea.
If I were you, I would do it. But I'll get hell from someone for saying this. I would do it slow, as to not crack the jars, but maybe vaporize some of the water.
My advice is to not do it. My advice is to always allow it to de-pressurize naturally. However, yeah, I'd do it a bit.

Coffee and gypsum huh? Haven't heard of that. What does that do? I'll let a little steam out I guess.

So I let some steam out. When I opened the PC it was nearly dry, even though the water was halfway up the jars when I started (60 min total). the grain looks on the dry side too. Well at least I can Put plenty of LC in now.

yeah letting steam out is just dumb. when you do that you're just swapping the clean PC'd air with dirty air, thus filling the air all around your jars (and possibly inside your jars) with airborne shit.

also when pc'ing, you should only put about an inch of water in the bottom.
I usually use less than that. I use the smallest amount of water I can without running dry. I fill just up to the screen, no more. It will take some tweaking for your pc, but that sounds like too much water. That much water will increase the chance of water getting into your jars.
