Electroshocked tower.
    #5659563 - 05/22/06 09:44 AM (17 years, 8 months ago)

My tower seems to be pumping with current. If the power or monitor is plugged in and i touch any metal on the case i get shocked. I tried just the power cord, and just the monitor cord both delivered shocks. I even tried removing my video card which changed nothing. I have already switched out power supply's. If i touch the metal in 2 different places i no longer feel the shock. Same as if i stand on something like a balled up towel. Someone told me it was possibly because of a missing screw on my motherboard that connects it to the tower. I checked and i am missing one of my screws and cannot seem to find one that will fit. Any help would be much appreciated.

I think that would be caused by a missing spacer (the things that stop the motherboard from touching the case) rather than a missing screw.

But if you were missing the spacers, I suspect your system wouldn't work.

well its been workign like this for a while i suspect. but that could be a possibility, i dont remember if i put the spacers in or not (i put it together over 2 yearsa go) but if i hadent youde think i woulda noticed the prob sooner (oh and atm i got my system turned off and unplugged, on my bros comp (wrestler's)

you have to have a wire touching the case somewhere

Or bad house wiring.

That was my first thought too. Considering you've eliminated the MB and PS possibility, I can only assume that it must be either bad house wiring as suggested, or possibly the wires that connect the front USB/sound plugs to the MB. Check it out.
